Add Media codec info to custom filters

It would be nice to able to filter and display media codec info when browsing a library. These properties can then be used in custom filters.

I’d like to expand on this suggestion to include a bit more functionality:

Request: Add advanced Custom Filter options so that I can easily find and optimize all episodes that use a certain codec or are in a specific container format. The ability to see advanced options should be controlled with a toggle as is done in other areas, since I’m sure not all users would want to see every available field.

Use case: Some streaming devices don’t play nicely with certain codecs and/or formats. I would like to automatically create optimized versions for such files, but there’s no way to do that based on the currently available options in the Custom Filter.

I would like feature as well. Here and there I have Movies encoded in old exotic video codecs. These movies force transcoding, which I would like to avoid as much as possible.

I would like to be able to filter these movies and optimize them in TV / Mobile friendly formats.

The codec metadata is already included on every movie info page. So I assume it is not a huge effort to include this in Filter and / or column

Video codec, audio codec and container would be enough for me. Plex dash shows that info is readily available. Use case is as listed above. Being able to help on migrating to all x265 or making sure that mp4s are used if in apple ecosystem. Things like that to help optimize library.

Export Tools is still working, if you need a solution right now

+1 for this suggestion.
Recently I wanted to filter the list based on video codec and unfortunately couldn’t see it. Option of video and even audio filter would be great addition to Plex.

Gonna chime in and also say please add this filter option. I’d love to convert my HEVC stuff to H264 to be easily playable in normal webbrowsers, and making a Smart Playlist with those would make things so much easier.

I discovered it is possible to create a playlist for music via Plexamp that uses “Track Codec”. The playlist will be saved to PMS and is functional but it cannot be edited via the web interface, it just errors with “Something went wrong”.

Plex is by far the best app I’ve ever used. The search feature breakdowns are top notch: the only thing missing is being able to search for a specific audio codec like True HD, Dolby Digital, Stereo, Mono, etc.

Would it be possible to add that feature?

so am i allowed to speak ? that is not AI that is me talking, can i talk about codec ?

why would you want to do that, i get your message is from 2022, but even then pc could read h265 natively, it does take less bandwith and data compare to h264
