Hello, could you explain to me how to add disks on an Open Media vault server in smb from Plex Media server on a Mac mini M1 (2020) Monterey 12.2,1.
I’ve been going crazy for days and days, impossible to make them appear in Plex (While Kodi finds them directly).
I hate Kodi even more now.
My disks are on a server on the local network. I can set them to smb or ftp.
Usually you mount that drive locally – your Mac will take care of that just fine most of the time. If you’ve assigned certain credentials to the SMB, you’ll need to provide those (macOS should offer to store them in the keychain for future use).
Then point the Plex Media Server’s libraries to that linked volume (e.g. /Volumes/videos/).
Thank you Tom for your answer. I mounted the disks and Plex finds them now. But I still have to reassemble the records for Plex to find the films. I can’t live like that. How can I ensure that the disks are always mounted automatically?
Currently the path is: /system/volume/data/volume/Movies/…
Preferably use the direct path (/Volumes/Movies/...); no need to point to your /System/ folder.
As for automatically mounting the SMB share:
make sure the login credentials for the share are stored in Keychain
drag the mounted network volume into System Preferences > Accounts > [your account] > Login Items
macOS has the nasty habit of assigning a new name to volumes if it’s reconnecting a share to which it lost access but kept the original connection alive. This can result in your network volume being named Movies1 (or using an increasing number). Therefore I recommend to disable Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan in order to avoid some accidental deletions if Plex cannot find the set library folder.
Thank you, here I am, everything works perfectly. I see that you are an expert in macOS, would you know how I can assign a parameter profile in the Mac so that when I launch Plex it switches to a different display (resolution) from the current desktop? Went from 1080 to 4k.
Not exactly sure I can follow what you’re trying to achieve.
I know you can configure Plex HTPC for different resolutions (Settings > Advanced > Resolution)
Well, I’m abandoning Plex after several years of use, I think it’s time to go to an application really able to work with my Mac. I installed Infuse which quickly found the NFS and Samba disks. Thank you Mr. Plex for everything you have brought me. Thank you for your help
