Smb Setup Help

Hello,

I have been using Plex for almost a year now. I just got a new media server and am moving all my files over to it. It is a HP ex495. I have the sources setup in Plex for Movies and TV Shows. I am having one problem with these though. For some reason Plex is not retaining the username and password for the SMB so whenever I restart Plex and launch a video it pops up with the login screen. Any thoughts? Can I store a string somewhere to automatically login on startup or something?

The other issue I am having is the media server is an iTunes server. Is there any way I can point Plex to it rather than the local iTunes library? I can add the music folder as a source but then I cannot get the artwork and sorting options like iTunes in Plex.

Thanks in advance for any help.

you could mount the smb shares in finder (and add them to the keychain and login items) and then plex will just see them as local volumes. the connection should be more stable that way too, i think.

for itunes, if what is serving your itunes share is a actual copy of itunes running on a mac, you can of course run plex media server on that mac and point your plex machine to that, but it only operates on a mac and on actual itunes libraries, not itunes shares. however i’d guess that its something (not itunes) running on the HP server, likely firefly media server or some kind of in-house daap server, if it’s running firefly, there was someone here working on a plex plugin for firefly, but he hasnt been heard from in a while…

Thanks for the help. I had mounted the drives on the desktop and told Plex to look at those but I wanted to go directly into the server if possible but I cannot figure out how to get the user information to stick. For now I just mounted the drives. I have a Windows laptop running XMBC and the setup I want works perfect.

The iTunes server is Firefly. Thanks for that info. Going to try and help getting the Firefly plugin setup on my machine to help test.
