Add unsupported channel to Guide

Tuner Make/Model: HDHomerun Dual ATSC
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: No

I was wondering if it’s possible to manually add a channel that is unsupported just so I can use the guide to see what’s on (so then I can go to the appropriate app and watch it there and have all my live channels in one place)

I can do this with Windows Media Center by selecting which listings I want to pull from (like Spectrum Cable), but I think because I’m using HD HomeRun in Plex, it’s using ATSC OTA only listings, so I can’t manually select a cable station and add it to the guide.

Anyone know of any workarounds?

Much appreciated!

I am in the same boat as well. Media Center was awesome back in its glory days.

Yes it is possible with using the multiple line ups feature added in a new DVR setup. Its hit-or miss if the cable/satellite provider has the missing channels listed, but it has filled a few gaps for me. Also doing so you need to delete your existing DVR and creating a new one to have it download the listings.

When you do find a missing channel, and add it to your guide you may notice the guide will assign it based on what channel it is listed for the provider NOT from the HD Homerun scan, but it does work when you tune into it.
(Still awaiting Plex to give us functionality to customize channel numbers so they can be mapped correctly)

If you have recordings set up, deleting the DVR will not affect those recordings… however if the channels the shows are set to record on has changed. You would need to re-add those shows to fix the issue.

It does take time to process, but hopefully it works for you!

Thanks!

I was able to find a second tuner to try and add cable channels, however, Spectrum has blocked all channels, including clearQAM from being scanned without adding a cable box to the mix. So while I set up the second tuner to use Cable, I can’t scan any channels for the lineup to be imported into the mix.

Any ideas on what I can do next?

I miss clearQam, free channels to watch… even the premium ones as well. Meh, they cracked down on that, and make you rent cable boxes for every tv in the home. Just money down the drain.

The alternative to a cable box is the HD Homerun Prime Silicondust sells is a 3-tuner cable card receiver. That would be the way to go if you want to add the “encrypted” cable channels you are paying for into plex. There are affordable brands if money is an object, but do research and check plex supported tuners list to be sure what you buy will work.

Also check with your cable provider to see if they still rent out cablecards, even the cards have many 2,4,or 6 tuner support and its hit or miss to get those activated. The buzz is they may be on their way out… sadly.

If you’re looking into receiving premium channels. DRM is in place to prevent DVR recording of their content.

I hope this helps ya out

Thanks I appreciate the response, but I don’t have cable service - only online access to cable service.

So is there any way that I can force/hack Plex to see cable lineups, so I can just replace an unused channel in my OTA guide so I can see it’s listings? The channel will tune to something else, but I just want to see Bravo TV listings within the Plex guide, like I can with WMC.

Just wondering if there is a configuration file or registry setting that can be edited to allow/force lineups to be seen.

I’m on Bunny Ears. The local OTA broadcast listings have missing channels. I have the option to add additional provider(s) listings to pick channels from and match my scanned channels into my guide.

There are some channels another City market has that mine doesn’t. For instance i have Los Angeles OTA and Charter that actually has my missing channels i can match from. Portland, OR wasn’t favored too much in that regard. Lots of inaccuracies

You do have the ability to adjust your channel matching

ok so this is where I’m stuck.

How do I add another EPG location?

I think right now even though you can add more than 1 EPG, it’s still 1 EPG per device. So, if you only have one tuner device, you’ll only be able to assign 1 EPG to it.

Ok so I got it to work -

I used a Hauppauge 955Q - and had it hooked up to my wall which gets 1 Spectrum station telling to me subscribe (and a bunch of premium random stations from PPV i guess - they disappear after the movie is over - not sure/why that works)

Anyways, I was able to add Spectrum line up to my OTA HDHomerun Lineup, and just replaced one of the unused channels with Bravo listings. Disconnected and removed the 955Q from Plex and my computer, and it works how I want. I can now see the listings!

Now if we can only get custom channel ordering, and be able to control rewind and skip length (10secs is ANNOYING) I’d be fully satisified

Appreciate the help everyone :+1:t2:
