Hi Guys,
I have several 5.1 Blurays in my music collection that I have ripped and added to my media drive. I would like to add these to my Plex media server if possible. Examples are the 40th Anniversary Releases of Signals and Moving Pictures by Rush. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks In Advance.
If you want to keep the Atmos audio track playable in Plex clients, you can only rip them just like you would do any regular video.
Which means these music albums will end up in a video-type library in Plex.
If you don’t care about Atmos and only want the lossless 5.1 audio, you could extract the LPCM or TrueHD tracks and convert them to multi-channel FLAC files.
But this reduces the number of Plex clients somewhat, where you can listen to them in true multi channel.
The upshot is that the albums will be in your regular Plex music library.
I want to keep the video aspects because some of them have a video component as well. Example, Rush, 2112 5.1 has added a comic book like aspect to the album since side one has a concept album aspect to it. So I assume that I have to convert these raw backups to a video file and then try to get Filebot to do it’s thing? What’s the naming convention used if Filebot doesn’t find a match? Thanks for the help.
Filebot can only help if your disc has a record on TheMovieDB.org.
If it doesn’t, follow the convention for movies in Plex anyway.
If Plex is matching it to some unrelated “normal” movie, simply use the Unmatch command on it.
I recommend to
put these files into a separate library
but still use the regular “Plex Movie” agent for this library
You will have to supply your own metadata for any disc which doesn’t have a record on TMDB.
