My Plex Server runs on my QNAP which is running out of storage capacity. I have additional media located on a second QNAP that I would like to add to my Plex Library. When I choose to add a folder and then “Browse for Media Folder” I am only able to choose a folder from the original NAS drive. How can I add that 2nd NAS to my existing Plex Library? Do I have to setup the second NAS as PMS
Thank you for your help.
Your Q is not related to Plex Media Server, but to QNAP
See: https://www.qnap.com/solution/vjbod/en/
And followup questions should go to their forums
I would expand on the answer with…
The QNAPs provide the underlying filesystems, so first you need to make that visible so that PMS can then access them.
There’s different ways of achieve that with QNAP…
- Physically hooking QNAPs together (if its a compatible model)
- Using VJBOD (https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial/article/how-to-use-vjbod-virtual-jbod-to-share-the-storage-capacity-of-multiple-qnap-nas)
- Simply using NFS or CIFS sharing from one NAS to another.
All have pros+cons as usual.
Me, I went with an Expansion unit and #1. For you as you already have the two units, I suspect #3 will be your best option. Share it out over the network, mount it on the other NAS.
If possible, directly ethernet-cable the NAS’s using one of the other NICs (static IP them on a different unused subnet) for best networking performance.
