I have a Time-Life multi-disc DVD set I finally got around to ripping to add to my collection. I’d like it to be ordered by disc like the collection, but have been unsuccessful in doing so. What is the best way to add this collection to my PMS setup? The files are all MKV. Willing to rename and/or repackage files to another container if needed. I wouldn’t mind calling each disc a “Season” either. I’ve tried finding existing tutorials or forum threads, but none seem to match what I’m trying to do, but I know I’m not the first person trying this. I’d add the entry to TheTVDB so it could just index properly, but I’m not sure if that’s the best way, either. Thanks for any input or pointing me towards any exsiting tutorials you guys can give.

If you depend on organizing each disc as a season, you’ll need to manually edit the metadata of the show with its seasons and episodes.
Organization by disc isn’t necessarily a sustainable approach when it comes to tv shows.

I’d like (try) to present it as my discs are. I do understand what you mean about it being sustainable. I don’t need to use a TV format. I could use a movie format, then make a collection and just stick that collection into where it belongs, however, since it’s originally a TV show, I’d like to try to get it to appear in my TV Shows library? I’ll keep plugging away at it. Just dont’ know the best way. I know a lot of it’s trial and error.
Why not organize the episodes as they aired? You can still create a collection of episodes to reflect the volumes and manually ordering the different episodes as they’re listed on your volumes.

So stick it in my TV Shows library organized with Season XX with TTVDB as the indexer for this show? Sounds reasonable.
Also, for many episodes, there’s the original show, and the ortiginal show with the ads as they aired. How would I notate that on the files in the filenames? Like I’m OK with seasons showing just the show, but I’d like to be able to select the show with the ads or without.

How can I force plex to either:
- Show both versions but have the file names under each file
- Leave them nested, but not treat them like Part1,Part2 and give the option to select one or the other (ideal, especially if it asked what version to play when I went to play it - I know this doesn’t exist, but just an option)
This is similar to what it does with movies with mutiple editions (Theatrical, Extended, Director’s Cut, etc), except in movies, I can split those apart and manually edit the metadata. I don’t think I’d want to do that for a TV show with mutiple seasons, that’s a lot of editing, and I have 3 servers.
Sadly, there’s no editions for episodes available yet. You can „misuse“ the version feature which is targeted for different quality versions of the same file (as per your screenshot). Items with multiple versions should offer a „Play Version“ option —though the version picker only lists resolution and bitrate as „distinguishing factors“.
That’s better than nothing. How would I do that? TV shows don’t offer me a way to split them out to edit the metadata. Is that a file tag?
