Adding additional folders to a Library

This caught me by surprise. I thought by ADDing a second folder path to my Movie Library, I would have more space to add media when I needed it. I created a new folder (on a different drive) in anticipation of filling up my first (original) folder. When I ADDed the new folder path into PLEX, I watched in horror as the PMS (Win10 home) started to delete all of my curated metadata in the original folder. Stop! stop!

I obviously don’t understand how this mechanism works. The new folder path was properly(?) listed as the second folder of that library but I just wanted it there to extend that library capacity in the near future. Is there an explanation for this? Is there another way to accomplish this. Any help is appreciated.

Small guess here…

You are using USB drives, and unplugged the first one?

I didn’t think of that. It is a USB drive, but it hasn’t been unplugged for months. It is always reassigned the same drive letter through the boot process. Still, that may explain it since I don’t know what the PMS is looking for. Thanks!

And when using USB drives, I STRONGLY suggest, that you disable Empty trash automatically after every scan in SettingsLibrary

You may want to reload (F5) the web app into your browser, before editing your library.

Always verify that the old folder paths are already listed on the ‘Add Folders’ tab.

If you edit an existing library and this tab is empty, abort the operation immediately and reload the web app.
