I have over 100 media folders to add to my “TV Programs” library and I’m finding it a chore to go through the “Manage Library” - “edit” - “Add Folders” - “scroll to the bottom of the existing folders in the library” - “Browse for Media Folder” - “select the media folder to be added” - “Add” then continue from “Browse for Media Folder” to “Add” for each extra media folder finishing up with “Save Changes” to save all additions. Does anyone know of a quicker way to do this?
If any developer is reading this can I suggest putting the “select media folder to be added” at the top of the list of existing libraries so you don’t have to scroll to the bottom of the list to select it?
Better still, how about having the ability to add a list of full pathnames of the folders to be added as a list (rather than having traverse the machines directory structure to select each folder) and then clicking on an “add folders” button?
Thanks JaysPlex7. Yes, I’m aware of the plex naming conventions but how do you achieve this on a Windows system with multiple disks and still be able to easily locate items if plex is unavailable (my TV Programs media library is spread over 17 disks on the main HTPC). I chose to use a different directory structure so if I lost plex or decided to switch to something else I had directory structure that was more meaningful in a non plex environment. I also have a disk backup strategy where I use disks that have been retired from my main HTPC on a backup HTPC (as my library grows I have updated my main system to use 10TB to 20TB external USB drives whereas my backup machine uses disks raging from 3TB to 20TB so individual folders on the main machine are sized to fit the disks available on the backup machine.
Thanks FordGuy61. See my reply to JayPlex7 as to why I have so many folders.
What I hadn’t realised was that you could just type or paste the path into the the box rather than traverse the folder structure to find it. I missed that completely!
This makes adding folders so much quicker that it’s no longer a problem. Once again, thanks for pointing that out.
Thanks OttoKerner, I will certainly have a look at DrivePool, it sounds like it’s just what I need.
I’ve always been reticent to use add-ons in case they’re disabled by Windows changes or need to be re-installed and setup again if I have to reinstall Windows.
