Adding an Apple Music Library in 2021

I’m finally going to try out Plex Music. I’m running Plex Media Server for Mac on macOS 11.2.1 ( Big Sur ) and Apple Music.

My music “root” folder is /Users/username/Music/Music
The exported Library is at /Users/username/Music/Music/Library.xml
The media folder is at /Users/username/Music/Music/Media/Music//
For each track, Apple Music app creates: /Users/username/Music/Music/Media/Music//

Questions

  1. When adding a Music library, which folder should I point it at? The root folder or somewhere lower, closer to the media files?
  2. From other posts that I have read, it seems generating the Library.xml is an important step, but I don’t know what it is used for.
