Adding/managing Friends is a complete mess

You can only add Friends from a desktop, and it’s not obvious at all where you do that. Then you have to manage their library access on a completely different (and also not obvious) place. Why not have a Friends selection when you click your profile picture that lets you search for and add Friends as well as manage their library access? It would be much simpler for the users, and your code for the functionality is already extant.

Which client type are you using?

  1. Being Plex friends with someone doesn’t necessarily mean, that you are also granting them access to your media, nor that they are granting you access to their media.
  2. Granting access to your media doesn’t require them also being Plex friends with you.

Thank you for responding so quickly! The primary clients I am using are the Windows web-based interface running on my server, and the Android app on my phone. Most of the Friends I add are using either a Smart TV or dedicated media device like Roku or Apple TV. They are normally people I introduce to Plex and share some of my server resources with them, they typically are not running servers.

The mobile app has a feature to manage Plex friends.
That means you can do everything related to the “social” aspects of Plex. (follow people, share opinions about movies and series, etc.)

You are right that it doesn’t have a way to grant access to your own media. Yet. This will eventually be added.

Okay, thank you - glad to know it’s on the “to-do” list!
