Odd behaviour since release of the new friends feature

Server Version#: 1.32.8.7639

If I go into “My Profile” > My Friends screen , the list of friends does NOT match what is in the Settings > Manage Library Access list. There’s a discrepency. Instead the other “missing” users show up in my “Friend Request” list, even though they have obviously previously accepted. How do I get established friends out of the “requests” list and move them into my “My Friends” list?

@BigWheel have you seen this behaviour before?

As an aside, is there any way to edit the names that are displayed in the user list to a more fiendly name than the plex username?

There is one newly invited user who has not accepted the invitation, yet.
Until they do, they cannot access your media.

Tell them to login (using their own user credentials) at https://plex.tv
then go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/profile and accept the invitation.

Friends and library access are separate.

You can’t add a friendly name but your friends can add a Full Name (it can be whatever) in their profile themselves.

The user who hasn’t accepted isn’t the issue. The users that are friends that are not in my friends list are.

So I don’t understand the distinction or how to manage that. If I add someone with library access it would seem they become friends or got imported as friends mostly when this friend feature got added. How are these few hanging out in the “friend request” list and how do I get them moved?

Friends used to synonymous with library access. We split those about the time Discover Together was in beta. At the end of the flow to give library access is an option to request they be friends as well. They don’t have to accept being friends in order to accept the library access.

Fair enough and easy enough to comprehend, but everyone that was on my library access prior to this change became friends (was there even an option before?) except these few that are left in limbo and they are all not done acquaintance I have arbitrary access to. They’re actual lifelong friends so it’s not like they got the option and declined?

Previously you could be friends and not share libraries by removing individual library access after the fact., but could not have library access without being friends. user feedback during beta folks wanted to not share activity with a few folks that did have library access. One I recall was that someone wanted their mom to keep library access but they did not want to share activity with her. The only way to do that was to split friends from library access completely. No one I recall mentioned wanting us to delete their existing friends and have to start over.

I get it now. It was clear as mud when this was implemented. I removed all friend requests (which I didn’t know were different than library access… thought it was synonymous) and re-requested it for people that are close to me and removed those that I didn’t care to know if they share interests. I just wish it was made more clear, or “friends” (which seems like a totaly new feature to me) were completely reset and required me to readd them one at a time. Either way, it’s all sorted now and I appreciate your diligence in responding to me!
