I am running into some limitations organizing my Movies Library without tags to indicate film composers and cinematographers so that I can use that data in my Smart Collections.
My current workaround is to use the Sharing field to put those names in, but that’s not what the Sharing field is for, obviously, and it’s not an elegant workaround.
Why not just make a Collection out of those names? Because I need a Smart Collection for everything. For example, I have a JOHN CARPENTER Smart Collection to keep track of every movie he has contributed to. So I created a Smart Collection which finds his work as a director, producer, and writer. This will update itself as I add new films, which is the beauty of a Smart Collection. But he’s also a music composer. Those films will NOT get picked up because there is no music composer field available, even though the data is in there.
Ditto for cinematographer. Nicolas Roeg, for example. My Smart Collection will pick up the films he wrote, directed, and produced, but NOT the ones where he was just the cinematographer.
I therefore suggest the addition of fields for MUSIC COMPOSER and CINEMATOGRAPHER, or possibly a handful of CUSTOM fields by which the user can make their own labels [mod-edit: duplicate; see #1+2 below] which can then be used in Smart Collections. This could be used, for example, as a way to keep track of accolades: Academy Awards, for example, achieved by the film. [mod-edit: duplicate; see #3 below]
It would also be nice to be able to use a Smart Collection parameter to search the text of ANY field in a film, including the description. This would allow a Smart Collection to automatically pick up all the Rambo movies, for example, even the ones without Rambo in the title… because the word Rambo is mentioned in all the descriptions.
