"Adjust automatically + subtitles" bug on Plex Android apps

@anon18523487 as we discussed in the past, there is a bug with your Android apps wherein a movie won’t even play when subtitles are pre-selected AND the adjust automatically feature is enabled. This is still a bug to this date. I was scratching my head as to why I can’t play a 4K file the Plex app of my Android phone (it just gets stuck with a spinning wheel when I tap play). I have more than enough bandwidth (500Mbps) to play a sub-100Mbps bitrate 4K file. As soon as I turned off the “adjust automatically” feature OR the pre-selected subtitle, everything worked fine.

Why is this not being fixed? If it’s not, why can’t the feature be removed in Plex Android apps or at least put a message somewhere that this feature still has a bug when used with subtitles?

@ChuckPa any ideas?

There have been a lot of subtitle issues. From all I’ve tested and reporting in the forums now, Android app ver 9.12.2 on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 is solid.

This is the same version used on Android phones.

I’ll be devil’s advocate here and ask – Is the phone fast/strong enough to keep up?

I will try to test using my shield pro. I don’t have android phones.

I’m even at 9.13.0.37163 on my phone probably because I have beta enabled on my Google account. And yes, it can keep up with 4K playback when adjust automatically is disabled. I don’t use this Android phone for playback myself but I have other users that do so I wanted to make sure that this bug is solved already. I can reproduce it in my phone so not sure what’s up. I just assumed that it’s the same bug that @anon18523487 was telling me about in the past.

Yes, this bug is still there and has not been fixed.

There you go. Is the fix in the pipeline though?

Also, I just tried enabling automatic adjust quality in my Shield 2019 and pre-selected an external SRT and I didn’t have the issue with it. Is this bug only affecting certain Android apps like the one in mobile phones?

Here’s another member that posted the same problem:

@Havohej

when the setting is “Automatic Adjust Quality”, which is the default setting

Well, that’s not true. The default is off.

You’re right. He didn’t get that part right but for the most part what he’s experiencing with that feature is exactly the same with mine in my mobile phone.

@anon18523487 is there any reason why this issue is not being addressed? Or are you not at liberty to tell us anything about this?

@anon18523487 any updates here?

We don’t have plans to fix this, but the “auto adjust quality” will be replaced with a new feature in the future.

The feature that prompts the user to upgrade or downgrade the quality bases on the connection speed from the cliet to the server, correct?

Yes, that’s it. Once that is out of testing and public, this automatic setting will go away.
