Just an enhancement idea that shouldn't be too hard to implement. It would be nice as an administrator, to have some administrator options based on the Now Playing functionality. I should be able to go in from the web interface and see who is watching a movie/show etc, and perhaps disconnect them or set a timer on them, before it locks that user out. This would be beneficial from a parental control perspective. I don't always want to be spying on the kids to make sure TVs go off and/or shows end on time...but having control via plex would be a massive help in this. Would also be fairly simple to implement.
In my opinion Plex desperately needs to give server operators the ability to manage their shared users in realtime. Right now it's just all or nothing, and that's a terrible way to run a streaming server given the nature of bandwdth and physical server limitations in todays computing environment in most locations around the world. There is very little, if anything, I'd like to see Plex implement more than giving me actual control over my server finally. It is absolutely essential.
Agreed. I would like more control over the activity of my server(s). Maybe make the web interface have a specific section that allows for administration of activity by itself. Could also set up rules for the activity (This user gets blocked from 10 PM to 6 AM...for kids bed time etc)...stuff like that would be really nice.
early 2021 clean-up: implemented (partly -> now playing); duplicate (“parental management”)
