Adult Recommendations are not acceptable (NSFW)

not totally sure i follow, but pretty sure the software engineers didn’t make the product roadmap. the people that did are responsible to show investors new revenue streams. partnering with content providers is clearly the next stream. making the feature opt-in is a good idea but from a ui perspective users will click the least amount of buttons, so opt-in would result in less interaction to the new revenue stream than opt-out. that is by design. pulling it down also would be a hit to that stream. this is big business at this point.

It concerns me that C-Line doesn’t seem to be aware of how this is impacting their user base and ultimately their bottom line.

This type of feature is a HUGE change in direction for Plex as a whole. C-Line should be highly invested and interested in how the rollout is going.

This is C-Line.

ok so they would definitely be aware and i’m sure they are saying do not kill the feature. they just had a huge press roll out for this feature lol. so i’d bet my money on discover staying, most likely as is minus nsfw content. but most definitely a server admin is not going to get any controls over plex features. nor should they. users may end up getting more granular controls, which is the correct fix.

Agreed. I suppose it was inevitable but given the nature of the company 10 years ago vs today, the current state of the food chain at Plex indicates that they are oblivious to those concerns. It was not too long ago that Plex received additional top executives to add additional growth and insight for their vision so somewhere down the line I believe things definitely have been required to facilitate that need, down to the developers.

I’d go so far as to say the only potential fix.

If there continues to be no controls, I just have to shut plex down, its useless to me.

Agreed. If Plex attempts to only provide their own filters and no admin controls, I’ll be forced to leave Plex. My users and my family cannot accept anything less for good reasons (as shown this past weekend on this forum).

Yep, these are the type of people who scare me the most in tech.

They are about big profits, heavy user tracking.

It seems they’ve confused Plex’s user-base with the standard streaming consumers, too.

why would plex let your “admin” their services that they are monetizing. this is the thing i really do not get why people are asking for this. lol.

this, this is the answer. plex has changed focus. forcing it back is not the answer. leaving plex is the answer.

After reading that article again, I have to say that I too believe the only opt-OUT option is to leave Plex.

I don’t think they mentioned anything about Plex being a streaming server in the article. It was all about becoming the next generation Pluto TV or the like.

exactly.

One thing I don’t see Plex admitting, is that what other streaming services have learned: if they don’t own the content they can’t compete.

The two biggest winners in this content battle are those providing the pipes (ISPs and backbones) and those producing the content.

Amazon, Apple and Netflix have all figured that out. Heck, Amazon just merged with WB.

Ironically we are discovering that this is Plex’s new direction because of their “Discover” feature.

I might have to remove Plex from my “Watchlist” and keep more of a watchful eye on Emby and Jellyfin.

i have a lifetime plexpass so it will always be on my list and sharing with friends and family is hands down the best on plex. with that being said i’ve dabbled in “channels dvr” because their live tv offering is so much ahead of plex’ is not even funny and their media server features are coming along nicely. problem is there is a monthly/yearly sub.

Sorry for the response 45 minutes late (combing through the thread after finishing work) but I had no interest in visiting the forums before this feature was pushed, and it has prompted me to make an account and vote on that issue, and I’m certain I’m not alone in that.

I read up on them earlier. I’m just not a DVR person. I did jumped in fully with Plex DVR when it first released but I found less and less to care about over the air. I’ve fallen away from sports due to all the politics being forced on us there and the new shows are becoming too woke. I’m relying more and more on the extensive list of existing content.

I do still use Plex’s DVR to gather older shows, but finding I’m preferring to own the shows on DVDs, so they end up replacing my DVR content.

Being a long time Plex Pass owner, I too find Plex’s UI to be the best. However, Emby isn’t far behind. Looks more like Plex did before the last major UI update. I think Emby will be getting it just right soon.

Jellyfin is a wildcard. I love the opensource nature of it (not tied to a company), but these things are hard to keep moving in a unified direction.

Correction. Amazon bought MGM’s library but AT&T bought Warner which now at this point is WarnerMedia Discovery. Again, pointing out yet another media catalog buy out.
