Is this at the client level, account level, or server level?

Was enabled by default for me. So, Opt out

Interesting, I wonder why we’re seeing different things. For me after the update, the “More Ways to Watch” toggle was disabled in all the apps I updated (iOS, Apple TV, macOS)

Edit:
Oh, as a test, I enabled the option in the app of one of my devices, and then the option also got enabled everywhere else. So I guess the setting is synced at the account level? I suppose it’s possible I toggled it off in the first app I updated and that’s why it was also disabled on all the other devices.

Yeah I’m really surprised about this.
On my Shield it was one click to turn everything off at launch.
On iOS and my Apple TV it took at least 3 steps to remove all traces of discover.

If was the ultimate case off being NOT off by default. That said it’s off.

The important thing is that this unwanted adware forced onto paying users is opt-out. Plex, inc wouldn’t ever dare to do the right thing and make this adware opt-in.

Discover was never available to Managed users. There has been a lot of requests for it and it’s something that we’re discussing.

This change to Search is a client level change.

Clarification:
The added toggle is a client level change. The setting to disable Discover results from Search is an account level change. Meaning changing this toggle will sync to all clients.

I’m a managed user on my own account and could see Discover ?

Edit - deleted the account and recreated it and now all looks fine. Was not Discover at all but age related material I didn’t expect. I had the wrong age group selected. My bad.

So you think plex did this maliciously? Man, this is some deep state stuff. Its a bug, they are fixing it.

Uh, most of us here on the forums actually have been here since the beginning of this and got factual information that indicates it does in fact was intentional based on the roll out. Don’t dare confuse my questioning with typical politics outside of Plex. This was something that Plex rushed due to a contract with partners or VC people ( that info is still not clear) but it was a contract nonetheless and those contractual deadlines had ultimate consequences. Hence why we are all here.

While I think the X rated material was not intentional, they could have avoided that altogether by having more time to have internal testing or requiring a small beta testing group with a NDA to work out these KINKS (pun intended).

The rollout date/launch was INTENTIONAL with a Q1 or Q2 launch intended.

There are others unlike myself who are paranoid and want to know more info on the privacy impacts this has and while I am in the “I know the risk” group, I welcome those individuals to question if indeed any privacy policies will be altered with this new feature.

You have many individuals on this forum who care and are passionate about Plex as a product and service.

You say its not too deep but just wait until they touch or alter something you actually use, then you’ll also want to ask questions and want to know why too.

I disagree @Atomatth see here

@Atomatth - as I said in my pm, was my fault actually - have edited my post. Sorry about that.

You are correct re Discover.

Apologies for a totally un-Plex-related question. Would JellyFin be the best alternative to Plex? Would I have to make any major changes to my local media in order to use it? For example: different naming standards for files and/or folders.

The naming in Plex, Jellyfin and Emby are seemingly pretty similar.
Anything I had In Plex has been more or less identified in Emby and Jellyfin.

As for the best alternative then Jellyfin has very limited client support at the moment.

Emby has far greater client support than Jellyfin but still (I think) slightly less than Plex.

Thanks for that  :+1:

No problem.
Jellyfin is the obvious choice for the totally free route.

That’s less of an issue for me as I have long had Emby Premiere (the equivalent to Plex Pass)

Good luck in whichever route you go down.

Thank you. I only use the free features of Plex anyway so the fact that JellyFin is free doesn’t matter much. I just thought there might be some clear cut reasons/opinions why one would be better than the other but I think I’ll just stick with Plex for now.

they have done this plenty of times over the last 10 or so years I have used the software and yet, here I am still using Plex because it is the best product out there when it comes to ease of use and ease of share. Sure, I could just switch to Emby or Jellyfin, but both aren’t very user friendly and lets be honest, no one likes doing tech support after hours with friends and family.

  • The original “universal design”
  • Removing Plugins

too name just a few that I remember, and there has been more because I have been part of focus groups when they tried to work with forum users again 5+ years ago. Hell, I never use these forums anymore because of how crap this forum tool is compared to the prior forum (possibly 2 versions back now, I don’t remember).

I spent $100 on it, 10 years ago, I got my moneys worth. If they screw it up beyond use for me then I will move on and not care at this point, it has literally paid for itself about 3 month into use.

These contracts keep the product functioning for all of us, because your $100 and mine aren’t keeping the lights on. Like it or not, if you want the core functionality (which they continue to enhance) then you need to put up with the “bloat,” although I have no problem with this new feature. Would I prefer it to be enable/disable, of course. But so far, I can shut off 95% of the “extra” stuff that keeps the lights on and I am ok with that.
