Normally The Verge is hugely critical of Plex. Maybe hit up Nilay directly?
On it
So apparently it WAS just that SIMPLE, for them at least.
Plex has to acknowledge this. I do not want this to get lost in forum moderation, etc…
Okay, but let’s be honest here. Their apology is going to be received like a YouTube stars admission to failure. I don’t believe it. Like, there are close to no redeeming qualities that makes me think this won’t ever happen again.
I’ve turned off my server for now.
Edit - as I have been running Emby in parallel, I’ll use that for now.
We have disabled the hubs and are purging the cache. We are working out how the leak occurred in the first place.
This is not something that we take lightly and we are truly sorry this happened!
The other feedback and concerns around Discover that has been echoed in this thread have been raised internally. We will be discussing better end user options over the next few days.
Thank you, @bweezy21 for raising this issue.
Being completely candid here - the only end user option that works for me is to be able to shut it off entirely.
Plex cannot be trusted to respect any content ratings settings or any other limits at this point. Well, that point was the last round, this is beyond that even.
Hopefully that means pulled until it’s at least close to Alpha.
And of course you stop pushing beta/alpha features to the masses.
Sorry. I didn’t read past that part.
But didn’t really need to.
Safe to say we are on the same page and you wouldn’t have had to read any of it!
Everyone responsible for this needs to be fired. No excuses, this is not acceptable and every Plex employee should be ashamed to work for a company that allowed this to happen.
I’m also just going to slip this in here for anyone who hasn’t seen it and voted yet…
The internal discussions should be, “Let’s be a company that empowers our users. We need to give them the full control over THEIR servers and THEIR content. and THEIR data.”
I couldn’t reproduce any bad results from those movies but perhaps because Plex staff shut off the hubs before I got back from walking my dog. I think we agree that it needs a remedy and looks like it’s getting one. I’m not sure what’s to be gained debating our interpretations of the severity of the issue so I’ll step out and let you have the last word.
Plex removed the hub that produces the explicit results. None of it is reproducable now.
I tried a few of the previous recommendations and they don’t show up. Lol. They got called in for mandatory overtime.
So, are the new Search Results impacted by this same problem?
Can you search for an objectionable movie and have it return results? I honestly don’t wish to try it myself.
Well hopefully I was just pulling out of cache and it will go away. I am not looking to cause Plex trouble. Just the opposite. But I probably shouldn’t have posted it publicly and sent a message. My bad…
