Adventures of Gummi Bears

When adding Adventures of Gummi Bears TV series to my Plex server, what is the appropriate file naming scheme to follow, because there are two segments to one episode, even though the same file is picked up for “both”.

Their listed as separate episodes on Plex server, but “get Info” revels their pointing to same file, eg E02-E03.

Is it best to just leave “as is” or split segments up ? also their segments from DVD, (.mkv files), their actually listed on IMDB and TVDB as separate episodes. Spanning over 6 seasons most are dual segments like this, although Wikipedia says “based on international scheme” or something… So i’m n ot sure where TVDB and IMDB think its separate TV shows. Or perhaps I’m incorrect?

I would use the proper TVDB name for this:

Depending on how your media is cut, and looking at the broadcast/release dates for the episodes, some days had two episodes.

Look here:

Whether you split them into individual or join them is your choice as long as you name the files correctly. e.g S01E02E03 (for both joined as one file)

Plex displays them wrong because it sources information from services that list them wrong. TVDB and IMDB have this weird compulsion to treat single episodes with multiple stories as individual episodes. By any objective measure, they are wrong. The original airings, the DVD episode list and the Disney Plus episode lists all prove this.

Unfortunately, to get them to show properly (as in how they aired or how they are on the DVD) means a lot of manual work in splitting the files, or leaving them joined and doing as @ChuckPa said and name them S01E01, S01E02E03, etc. The problem with the second option as you discovered is that it gives two entries in Plex, but plays the exact file twice, so when you move to segment two, you’ll have to fast forward through segment one. Or at least this was how it was last I tried a few years ago.

Alternatively, you could go the labor of love route, name them properly (the actual airings) and manually edit the episode descriptions.

Once you understand the process of splitting video files, I reckon manually adding metadata is more effort.
Particularly if the ripped files already have a chapter marker at the episode boundary.

I think generally you are right, although I’ll put the qualifier on that it depends on the series. With something like Animaniacs, copying and pasting the correct episode descriptions from IMDB is likely faster than going through the process of splitting episodes into two and sometimes three separate files then renaming them. The correct thumbnails would be another matter since I don’t think there’s a way to force Plex to ignore the metadata match and do a screen grab from the file itself. I know I could manually set the thumbnail, but that is definitely where you are going to spend a lot more effort.

I have done exactly that.

None at all, since they already exist for all the split episodes on TheTVDB.

Sorry, I wasn’t as clear as I should have been. I meant “my” way would take longer to get the right thumbnails.
