Hi all,
First time poster here looking for a little advice from you experts before i run through the setup.
So i think i’ve done my due diligence and read the ‘read me’s’ thoroughly, but just have a few questions before i jump in. I have a 2017 Nvidia Shield (16gb) that i will be using as a server. Attached to that will be a 4tb WD Elements external usb3 drive setup as removable storage which will hold all of my media, and I only intend to direct play from the Shield to the connected TV. Some things i’d like to clarify:
I read that when you attached a removable drive to the Shield it creates a folder on it called NVIDIA_SHIELD which is where you should keep your media if you want write access. Is it preferable to do this before adding the media to the drive or does it really not matter? The drive is brand new and unopened at the moment.
I also read that your available storage should be at least that of the file you want to play. If that means the Shield onboard storage then i have video files much larger than that. If that’s the case, should i move the server data storage over to the WD Elements also? If so, is there any negative impact on performance?
Ideally, transferring new media over to the drive once its hooked up to the shield would be the way to go. But would simply disconnecting the external drive and hooking it up to my pc to transfer files be a problem? I note that there’s a warning when moving server data storage stating removable storage must remain connected at all times.
Appreciate any help you guys can provide
Thanks
Jamie
