After migrating to DSM7 on DS920+ is VaapiDriver="i965" still needed?

After following the migration procedure described in this post
DSM 6 → DSM 7 Migration Process

I just noticed that the file Preferences.xml still contains VaapiDriver=“i965” like my previous file where I had added it myself

Is it present following the migration ? and is it still necessary?

Migration doesn’t make those kind of changes.

VaapiDriver is per PMS playback.
Did you need the setting in DSM 6?

What prompted you to add it to your Preferences?

I made this change some time ago because of 4k transcoding problem following this post.

I did the DSM7 install with Plex migration this week and remembered today that I made this change to the Preferences.xml

I understand this problem is now fixed, so I was surprised to see VaapiDriver=“i965” still present.

Is this a remnant of my old Plex on DSM6 or is it normal that it’s still here ?

If using the i965 works for you, which it will on the DS920+, I wouldn’t bother changing it.

The only time you’re going to run into trouble is when the average output video bitrate is above 120 Mbps. IF it causes any issues, you’ll see ‘surges’. Other than that, “If it’s not broken – don’t fix it”
