Mentioned profile avoids reencoding both audio and video and 4K content makes it only watchable over 5Ghz WiFi. Found a better profile that downscales video to 1080P while keeping audio at direct AC3 play. So now i can even play 4K content over 2.4Ghz WiFi with spatial audio working fine.
Also need a way to sync compatible files to the device for offline viewing. Currently AAC is the only audio option.
I can get it to work on EAC3 5.1 and AC3 5.1 tracks using my iPhone XS and the Plex Web through Safari.
But for some reason when I try to do the same thing on my iPad Pro, it doesn’t work! It seems to always want to transcode them audio to AAC Stereo.
Using the old player method and the Plex app for iOS using compatible tracks doesn’t work at all for me.
Anyone have any ideas what’s going on? Why is mobile Safari behaving differently on the iPhone versus the iPad?
Thanks all for the help! Using the supplied iOS.xml profile, the old video player, audio stream EAC3, Original Quality, it’s working. And it’s effing amazing (watching Toy Story 4 on an iPhone 12 Pro).
Spatial audio works great for me on both iPhone and iPad, but I have to manually select the AC3 soundtrack for it to kick in - Plex player defaults to AAC.
Is there a way to make the iOS player default to AC3?
