I’ve been meticulous in making sure the ID3 tags of my music files are correct, however now when adding a compilation album with many different artists, but with Album Artist as “Various Artists” they are always show as “Ashford and Simpson”. I have to manually edit it in Plex form Ashford and Simpson to Various Artists
Had similar problem a years or so ago. I found that I had misspelled “Various” on one album, and another did not have the embedded album artist tag or simply had “Various” . Once both errors were corrected, I think all I had to do was “Refresh Metadata” for the album, but I might have had to do the “Plex Dance”
The “Various” tag came from some albums that I had used EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to fetch the tags. I’ve just made it a habit to use MP3Tag or MusicBrainz Picard to correct and supplement the tags after the CD is initially ripped.
It was sometime ago, but I think it was just one album with “Various” as album artist that caused the glitch, and albums added after that were assigned to another artist. It wasn’t “Ashford and SImpson” for me, but all compilation albums came up with the same artist.
I would move all of the “Various Albums” artist temporarily out of the library, correct the album artist tags, and do the Plex Dance. After that, I’m sure it will work as you expect it to.
All albums, with all their tracks inside a certain “Album Artist” folder must be tagged with the same album artist.
If there is even only one track with a wrong or missing album artist tag inside there, it can set off all other albums.
Find that deviating track(s).
So if I have a folder titled “Various Artists” with lots of sub folders, and within one of those sub folders one of the tracks is not tagged correctly, then any folder subsequently added will still be affected?
Is that the case?
