Album names with content in brackets

Hi PLEX users,

I am a newbie with Plex and am losing my music. I have folders like

Music/Artist/Album

Some of my album names contain content in brackets for example

Beatles/Revolver
Beatles/Revolver (Remastered)

When loaded into Plex both albums appear as ‘Revolver’, i.e. Plex is dropping ‘(Remastered)’.

Any ideas why?
Thanks
Lee

Does our music have embedded data? If it does, Plex will try to use it. If you want to use the folder structure, make sure to remove all the embedded data.

The embedded tags are matching the album names specified above, i.e. one album has ‘(Remastered)’ and the other doesn’t in the ‘Album’ tag.

My guess is that it’s trying to match the album to a MusicBrainz release, and there’s no release on MB precisely named “Revolver (Remastered).”

What happens if you ‘unmatch’ the album? If my notion is correct, when you unmatch, the “(Remastered)” should be added to the album title.

Thanks, this fixed the issue.

Next question: is it possible to set Plex to ignore MusicBrainz? I already had ‘Prefer local metadata’ set. Just let’s say I had already arranged and tagged everything as I want from JRiver and just wanted to use the existing file structure and tags embedded in the files/

Thanks

Not completely, but you can de-prioritize it pretty well. Caution: your embedded tags need to be in very good shape if you do this. If anything’s out of whack, Plex may give some weird results. There’s a little more to do than just the ‘Prefer local metadata’ setting. This How-To shows you how to configure Plex, and also shows some common tagging practices that may cause problems:

[HowTo] Configure Plex to use embedded metadata (music)

Configured that way, Plex should only go to MusicBrainz for anything it can’t find locally.

Yes you can. Change the agent used for the library to “Personal Media Artists”. Then it won’t try to match anything.

I keep forgetting that one.

Thanks for all your help
