Worst Music Organization out of any program I have ever used

I have used a lot of different personal media software… Why is Plex THE ONLY program that doesn’t know how to load and understand MetaData tags for music? Yes I have prefer local metadata turned on.

Would you mind being a little bit more specific as for what metadata tags Plex is failing to recognize from what file types?

I have all my MP3 music in a single folder. I understand Plex recommends having individual folders for each Album… However, I keep all my music in one folder and the Metadata tags all have the album name, title art work etc… However, plex for some reason refuses to just use that… I don’t understand why… Windows, iOS, and MacOS all read it without any problems… Why can’t plex?

When you go into plex, it shows it all as under one album… Strangely, it shows it all under Billy Ray Cyrus, and shows is album art work, but at the bottom, it shows a different art work, but still says it’s all Billy Ray Cyrus. (See below)

Read the first post of this thread two to three times. Once you feel like you completely understand it, read it one more time just to be sure. Then, go ahead and follow its guidance strictly, paying close attention to the section titled “Potential issues with embedded tags.” If you’re still experiencing issues, please provide specific details regarding your file organization, file types, and the tags you have configured.

Well, I ended up just deleting the Music library. I then re-added it, and now it’s working. Very strange. I don’t know why it didn’t work the first time! But, for some reason it’s working now!

Plex is very strict when it comes to the organization of the music library. It is what it is.

Dread it? Run from it? Destiny Plex arrives all the same…

So, Library is now looking better, but Recommended sure is screwed up!!! ROFL! Wow!!!

You have a cover.jpg or similar artwork in the wrong place and it’s getting picked up.

Edit the library and go to the Advanced section and scroll to the bottom where it has the “Album Art” option, change it to “Plex Music Only”, save and refresh the metadata.

Or, find random artwork in your music path and either delete it or organise it accordingly by folders: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/

Thanks. Changing it to “Plex Music Only” fixed it. I guess I’m just shocked it doesn’t use the embedded picture from the MP3 file itself (metadata info).

If you have all your music in one folder I am surprised it works at all. If it misbehaves again in the future that is the first thing I would change.
