How to match/tag to the correct album?

Hi, I’m having difficulty tagging an album correctly. There are several versions of this album and the order of the songs is different in each of the different versions. My version has additional tracks too.

The album I’m referring to is Zone by Southern Sons. This is the version I have: https://www.discogs.com/Southern-Sons-Zone/release/6858652

But Plex keeps matching with this one: https://www.discogs.com/Southern-Sons-Zone/release/6005484

How can I have it right version so that the order of the songs are correct and the additional tracks can be seen and played?

In such cases your only chance is to:

  • apply metatags meticulously
  • organize your files, so they all follow the folder structure
    Music > Artist > Album > Tracks
  • enable ‘Use embedded meta tags’ in the properties of the music library

Btw. Plex doesn’t use discogs at all. Only musicbrainz.org (primary) and last.fm / allmusic.com (secondary).

Hi OttoKerner,

Thanks for the reply. Where do I find “Use embedded meta tags”?

I used discog in Mediamonkey first… musicbrainz and last.fm do not have the right version of the album.

I know this is an obvious answer, but if you’re talking just about one album, have you tried to fix the match manually?

You just have to click on the 3 dots on the wrong album and then “fix match”. There you can search the album you need, and well, if you don’t find it, maybe it’s not available on the database where plex search the information. In that case, you should use your personal metadata, changing the agent settings for that album in particular. (You can do that again with fix match, selecting “personal media artists”

Edit: Oops, just noticed you said Musicbrainz doesn’t have it. Take a look at this:

If you can go to Musicbrainz and find (or add) the correct version of your album, you can get the MusicBrainz ID (MBID) and use that to ‘Fix Match.’

To do this, open the ‘Fix Match’ dialog, click on ‘Search Options,’ and paste the MBID into the Album field. You should get only one match.

Thanks Beckfield. Will try that.

Hi Beckfield,

I tried adding an entry on MusicBrainz and tried to “Fix Match” on Plex. However, Plex still says it has 13 tracks when it actually has 16 tracks. The tracks listing is still from the Australian version.

I’m not sure if I’ve linked the right MBID. Should I have used the Album’s Details tab (MBID https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/abcf72b0-9a1b-4cf2-aaa1-7ae7ef7aeeb5) or the Track’s Details tab (https://musicbrainz.org/release/ed44df93-3218-459b-a319-0915efaf5f8e). It’s my first time adding an entry on MusicBrainz, so I hoped I did it correctly.

Also, would it matter if the album’s title (folder) in my NAS was “Zone” and not “Zone (Taiwan Version)” like on MusicBrainz.

Use the Album MBID to match the album.

The folder name for the album should match the release title (not the release group title) in Musicbrainz as closely as possible.

Hi Beckfield,

I think I’m one step closer. I can Search and find the album, but when I click on it, nothing happens. As you can see, the last 3 tracks are grayed out. The album still shows 13 tracks in the wrong other.

Thanks, everyone who gave your advice. I used Picard and also found the 3 tracks in “Unknown” artists. I manually edited the information and now they are all in the same album.
