I have an echo and fire TV Box and haven’t been able to link echo to fire TV box as the default player. I thought it may have been a casting problem so I first attempted to cast from a browser (under windows 10) to the fire TV box, then a Samsung S7 to the Fire TV box and finally the server to the Fire TV Box. Initially nothing would see the fire TV box. I then uninstalled Plex from the fire TV box and reinstalled it clean. I then ran each test again and every device connected to the Fire TV box but Alexa (Echo). Could there be an issue with the fire TV version of Plex? BTW: The casting test between each test device worked.
One other question, once repaired will there be a feature added so Alexa will be able to start Plex on the fire TV if its not already running.
Short Answer… Yes. They are working on the fix.
An updated app with the fix has been submitted to Amazon. Waiting on their approval to have it show up int he app store.

No, that is not possible with a Plex skill. The Fire TV itself has some skills. I haven’t tried, but from the Alexa support page they suggest:
“Alexa, Launch the app [title]”
