This has been happening for a week now, remote access is open. I ask Alexa to play a plex playlist everyone in the house just beeps, and doesn’t do anything. Troubleshooting I have done: restarted plex server on NAS and Alexa Devices, disabled the skill and re enabled it. Same issue still occurs after all of it, seems to have started about a week ago, not sure if an alexa update was pushed or what is going on. Anyone else having this issue?
Nobody is having this problem, still happening on week 2 now.
Not sure if it is the same issue but I have a similar problem. I have recently set up Plex server and enabled Alexa Plex skill on my Echo Dot. After configuring port forwarding on my router I am able to play SOME songs via Plex but not others.
For example, “Alexa, ask Plex to play Frank Sinatra” worked the first try. However, “Alexa, ask Plex to play Beastie Boys” Alexa responded with “sorry, I’m having trouble accessing your Plex skill right now.”
Attempting to troubleshoot, I used the iPhone Plex client to play Beastie Boys. Worked. Then I asked Alexa again, and it worked.
I suspect that Alexa’s Plex skill is configured with a short time-out. If the command does not return a response from the server within a few seconds, it gives up. I have a large library in Plex and an old CPU. I suspect that by playing an artist via iPhone the Plex Server cached it in “recently played” and was therefore able to find it faster when Alexa skill asked for it, thereby avoiding the timeout.
If Plex Alexa skill developers could increase the timeout I think it might help some people.
I finally got mine to work once I figured out the command was changed because I used to be able to say “Alexa ask Plex to play name of playlist” now it is Alexa ask Plex to play name playlist on. That command works perfectly. Would have been nice to know it changed.
