Alexa Skill - will German version come our way?

Too bad that Plex does not give a … about their customers outside the US! I wasted both money for a useless lifetime membership and time for helping a grateless company doing their translation work. Stupid me, I even did this for free and always being very short of time! Hopefully, they will pay the price for dealing with their gullible customers like this and become bankrupt!

What should I say: Plex acts like their president requests: --> America first
New functions, improved properties etc. --> everything only for the US-market, rest will be kicked

But welcome, when we can support with our plex pass lifetime

I don’t like to say that thomasbauser is absolutely telling the truth.

I bought a lifetime pass and all I recognized within the releases of the last year were new features which seemed to be only developed for the US market.

And of cause it is absolutely inacceptable that after more than one year there is no Alexa skill in Germen (and as well in other languages)

So I will also have a look at Kodi in the next days …

Kodi skill is still in Beta but works! And the performance of Kodi is much better in my server than plex.

Kodi seems to be the alternative. Where can you get the Alexa skill though? I couldn’t find it in the official store.

It’s a Beta so it isn’t shown up in the official store.
They have to invite you to test it

Actually I am looking at EMBY. Plex only bring in new online stuff or some crap which performing well in US only.
So, have anybody experience with switchover to EMBY?
I use KODI with PKC on my Shield while the PMS is running on a NAS. Is there any Bett solution to connect and manage my media then PLEX?

Hellooooo, what’s up with the german skill? I‘m waiting for a year now. This is ridiculous. Could you please finally submit it?!

@vanstinator, still here? Any Plex employees? Can we please get a status update, at least?

How about a beta release? Then you don’t have to claim perfection, but at least we can get something that likely works well enough.

I would really appreciate a status update. Does someone know if plex coworkers are even monitoring the forum?

Yes, they do! Beta is still under testing.

There is zero logic to be found in the long waiting period for a stupid translation. I have written a Alexa skill in the past and there is nothing terribly time consuming in making a translation. The biggest part of the skill lies on the Plex servers and not in the skill. Most things the skill does is triggering the interface they offer for the skill. It’s completely irrelevant in which language the skill sends this. You add a new language with the translated trigger phrases and that it. Regarding Emby… already tried that one and I must say it’s still a bit rough and tends to do funny stuff from time to time. Plex does zero communication with it’s customers, but at least it works fine. If you wanna follow an alternative, check Flex in here. Not working for Alexa yet, but at least it’s a speech interface.

In Beta Test since what period of time? Mars Mission is also planned, but somehow I feel that there will be life on Mars before Plex reconize, that “America first” ist not really good for business - when all other customers loose their interest in that bad conditions.

Is it that so complicated? Release the beta or at least release the english version for european market. Keep your promises or give back the money you got with false promises. A Beta since such a long period of time in testing? That means Priority 99 in a 2 digit range, where 1 is highest priority - or just a stupid lie to calm down customers.

Guess, soon you’ll censor this board and define it as false news that there is any other language version required by anyone. Pityfull.

Same here, went with Plex pass just because a skill was about to be released. Now I realize that I was tricked into believing that they work on that skill. It has been beta for ages (not one beta tester has materialized during all that time) and at the beginning some plex employees did comment in this thread regularly. This has also discontinued which tells us that nobody is working on that skill and they just do not care.

Sadly, I have to agree that the former writers are right. It is time to acknoledge that there is no plex interest in that skill and we should look for alternatives with Alexa support.

I`m a long time now with plex, buying my pass membership in 2013. At the beginning time plex was a straight forward developing software but now something stucked.
There are different points were it wouldt be very important to do the next steps but nothing changes since a long time. sometime you had that feeling that they just develop new features but dont care about the usability from the given ones. I dont understand how they prioritse what they do next. For sure it is not a big step to just translate a given feature, but that is not something NEW… also the sharing options of the photo libraries are a mess and makes the photo libs unusable and there is a long way with others things like that.
I also offered my help and did translations for smarttv apps etc. the hope dies last but I m at a point were I feeling fooled from plex. I will not say I want my money back because a have use plex a long time and at all the software did a good job, but for now I will think about to change to another software for sure it ends in kodi.
Sadly I really liked plex, planned everything on the plex background, like its interface(s) but if they dont move anymore and if they move than only in the US direction I dont see any future for this project.

For sure I can understand the angry people here especially if they just bought a pass membership in the last 1-2 years. I just had to pay the half of the price for my lifetime pass than today because of the beta period. and like I said at the beginnig time plex groth fast and in the right directions. But if I had bought that in the last years I wouldt be very angry too.

Wow ridiculous how we are getting ignored over and over again.

The forum is the only way to contact people from Plex and they give a ■■■■ about the customers. I would also be very happy to know what’s going on, but obviously they constantly working on new features for US and don’t want to be transparent about their plans.

I was very satisfied with Plex but over the last months I also started to look for other options to change the setup.

Come on Plex Team, share your plans with us. We were patient for one year now!

i posted in this thread a few months ago looking for a German skill.
didn’t care if the language was German, just wanted it to be available in the German Amazon store.
since it did not exist, i changed my digital store to the US, and was able to get the English skill.
two things, it killed my ability to view any prime content on my other devices, and it was a complete waste of effort. trying to say something like Alexa, tell plex to play music from xxx rarely works and is beyond overkill. i stopped using it the same day.

The German Plex Skill - please, what went here wrong?
I would appreciate a clear information from PLEX about your decision
to invest again time in the german version. It is totaly unfair to leave your customers
without any idea when or if it will come at all.

Hi All,

I agree that you all deserve some communication so I am going to do my best to lay out what our currently timeline looks like so that you understand why this process is not a fast process. We appreciate all of the help we have received on this topic and are very appreciative of the continued patience as well.

We are currently running an internal beta on the German skill for Alexa. This process will not be a short one. It turns out it is difficult to get Alexa to match different things users might have in their libraries in a different language.

As we continue this beta we will invite some users in to help test and get a better understanding of how the skill is working. Again, I would like to reiterate the difficulty that we have faced with matching in a new language.

After this process when we feel confident in the skill we will submit the skill to Amazon for their approval. This process is very thorough and therefore can also take a couple months.

For those of you that have asked about us just releasing the English version in Germany; we wish that was an option, however that wouldn’t work for a few reasons. First, it wouldn’t understand the songs, artists, or albums that you say. Also, Amazon requires us to release the native language in a country before we can enable the English skill in the country. That makes sense due to the fact the matching would not work without the native language.

If you have any questions regarding any of this please feel free to message me directly. I am happy to talk with any of you about this process.

Thank you again for your ongoing patience and support of us here at Plex.

Thanks,
Tara
