Alexa Skill - will German version come our way?

Thank you very much for these insights!
Roughly it could be that closed Beta could take up to 5 months… This means for me personally I should not expect something new before 05/19…
Nevertheless I am happy to get some awareness!

Keep up the good work!

Is there any way to get access to the beta version? Or is this “closed beta” an internal one? I’ve been looking forward to this exact skill since day one of Alexa.

I’m afraid it’s only a closed Beta, so that ambitious users can not give constructive criticism …

We invited many ambitious users from this thread to give us feedback. With their help we’ll have an offering to share at some point in the future that means a certain level of quality.

Sorry, but I just don‘t believe that.

What were the ominous selection criteria?

Which of the German-speaking plex-pass users of this thread here has come out as a beta tester?

@taramaclean

Thank you for your answer after months of asking in the developer thread

What I dont like is how your colleague is managing the PLEX customer relations there:

I’m sorry you don’t believe me. Not sure how to change that :slight_smile:

We randomly selected about 20 users to help us test. Some were more active than others. No ominous selection criteria was involved in this beta :sweat_smile:

I merely requested you stop asking for updates every few weeks in an otherwise dead thread. I apologize if the tone came off incorrectly :slight_smile:

Maybe … ask one of the beta testers to post a video or tutorial that shows Alexa’s role in Plex access.

Just believe hin.

@vastinator quite easy, make the people believe by your deeds and not just by words. Make a plausible schedule. BE HONEST. There’s a german word describing the behaviour of Plex: Hinhaltetaktik.

It’s a very good idea to put yourself in the position of your opposite: What would you think yourself if somebody is talking to you that way? Could you believe yourself? There are only very weak, cloudy promises (in fact, not even a promise that it will come out in the next 5 years at all).

American companies like to make their customer feel like they’re in the center of the companies interest. German customers know, that that just means they’re always standing in the walkway then - and not at all, that the company ist customer oriented. Want to try to change that?

Aka “delaying tactics” … They told you why it takes longer, I told you why it takes longer and the funny thing is, my saying is at least in big parts what they try to explain you all too. If you continue to go on their nerves, this thread will be locked sooner or later and this would be it. And this has nothing to do with bad customer relation handling. I am moderator over @ ReactOS forums and THIS is not more than preventing a already heated up discussion going critical. I would have locked this thing here for weeks by now. Be happy that the mods here are brave enough to keep things going or what you call it: customer relations ^^ The reply @vanstinator gave to @Hawk321 is still quite civil compared to what I fire at ppl violating the forums rules where I am mod. One of them is: BE CIVIL! You have two ways. Wait like we all do, YES ME TOO or pass on. Flaming around and calling the employees in here liar is no way to make things finish faster. Ah and before I forget. Calling me a liar would make me take things personal and let them wait even longer as revenge! (As job I do every day I am responsible for customer relations, too… and their IT :stuck_out_tongue: and I learned one thing very quickly. I am a service provider and NOT a slave.)

@dreimer1986:
I can’t see the value in your post beside you are in god mode in reactor os forum! Gratz on that.

Apart from that the latest status is:

  1. It was necessary to restart a closed Beta again.
  2. This will take some time
  3. Let’s check again April 2019

@dreimer1986

You are missing some points here.

Plex is a company who charges people fees for the Premium membership and they announced over a year ago that they are working on a Plex Alexa Skill.

What happened after this anouncement is that people based on this information purchased premium memberships and Alexa Hardware. But they never got a satisfying working skill for Alexa and in case of the german users they got until today what? Excactly they got even less they got nothing because the skill is not avaiable for them.

Furthermore they had to beg the Plex company and their employes for information. That sets the customer in a position where he has every right to ask the company when they will fullfill their marketing promises / whats the status quo / what are the milestones about/for this project. They have also every right to adress their displeasure to the company about that lack of information and about their information politics.

This are rights every customer has.

If you dont understand that the way the Plex company handles their customer relationship management is a bone of contemption then I dont know what to say. Because Iam working directly with customers everyday and the first rule is: Customer is King Second rule: Stay kind no matter what happens.

And your suggestion to close the thread because the customers are still asking questions and are getting pissed about the information politics of the Plex company says everything about you imho. First level support in a minor IT company?

Cheers

@dreimer1986;

rule your forums as you like.

I read here that I am not alone with my opinion.

Nobody calls someone a liar here. Only the fact that one doesn’t believe something out of experience doesn’t mean that the other lies - but sadly he not say everything he knows - but certainly with the German-speaking customers is not played with “open cards”.

Surely everything is a matter of opinion - you see it from the perspective of an admin.

But I see it from the point of view of the paying customer.

For more than a year, friends of mine in the US have the plex plugin for Alexa. These pay less for the Plex Pass than we Europeans.

So why do we get less functionality for more money?

I think that the Plex staff have to face exactly this criticism.

Why the employees not simply inform us about the exact progress?

Why not you just say “we’re just there …” or “we can start a large-scale beta on day X …”.

With us a few multimedia idiots you can do it.

I think that’s not okay.

We should stop these flaming now… The last posts are not constructive at all

Thank you for your detailed comments.

However, they bring us no closer to the desired detailed information from Plex.

@Plex-employees: for example how do you justify the mentioned reduced functionality for German-speaking Europeans without Alexa-plugin with higher fees?

That would just interest me …

Hey guys. this isn’t a contest to see who is smarter, worked in what field or whatever.

I’m sorry there is not set date on when this is released and there will not be. We do not and will not provide timelines for release. This is true for every product we make. No amount of insulting devs will change that. If y’all can’t be civil to other users or employees, questioning intelligence or whatever, I will simply close this thread and every other thread brought up about it until release which I don’t want to do, but will.

You don’t have to have Plex Pass to use the Alexa Skill, do you? If that’s the case then there is no reduced functionality for a higher price.

Thread is now closed. Don’t make another.
