All Android (TV and Mobile) Failing to play all videos

Server Version#: 1.20.5.3600
Player Version#: Android Mobile 8.9.2.21619 (613cb8fd),

Overnight it seems I can no longer play any videos in my library on Android TV and Android Mobile ( will get the TV version later). Everything seems to play fine via web and my wifes iPhone, but the Android TV (newest Chromecast device) and my Android (Pixel 5) just pops up “An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”. This was working fine within the last week for sure (maybe even yesterday).

Firstly, turn off verbose logging on your server. Second, you’ll need to provide the log from one of the android devices. Android, Android TV, Fire TV Logs | Plex Support

Apologies - attached are new non-verbose server logs and the logs from my Android device.

Manufacturer: Google
Device: redfin
Model: Pixel 5

Here are the Android TV logs as well. FWIW disabling the “new” player on the chromecast allows videos to play. That option I dont see on the Android app any longer.android_tv_logging.txt (1.2 MB)

Are you using a custom URL or your own security certificate?

No I dont think so - I haven’t changed anything - nothing that I know about.

Ok, so the problem I see is that your PMS has advertised an IP address that isn’t working. Can you double check your network and see what IP your server is using. It is saying that it is using the IP ending in 49, but that isn’t working. You can also check the remote access page on your PMS and see what IP it shows there too.

If everything looks right, try signing your server out and reclaim it.

checking now…

IPs match in the settings:

Will figure out how to log out of the server and reclaim

I’m having the same problem. It worked fine yesterday. I get the error 11-20 08:42:02.377 i: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tls @ 0x7076523a80] Peer certificate failed verification. I’m using the plex direct stuff with a local plex server. My friend’s remote plex server works fine. I installed an older version (8.0. something) of plex for android and it works again.

The older versions of the app had a bug that allowed insecure connections even if you had that setting off.

Enabling that option to allow insecure connections may help here but then you have an insecured connection. If you are ok with that, it’s worth a try.

It works when I disable secure connections. There is nothing wrong with the cert provided by plex direct. I was using my own CA and a custom URL but reverted to plex direct to see if it fixed the issue which it did not.

Everything worked fine last night. Nothing was updated during the night.

It’s possible the cert from Plex changed overnight, which is why I suggested signing out and back in for your server to obtain a new cert.

I’ll give that a try. Like I said, I was using my own CA and custom URL for years. It worked last night.

performed the steps with the same result - I dont think this is the right rabbit hole:

  1. secure via web works
  2. secure via iOS works
  3. older player on chromecast/Android TV works

I removed and adopted the plex server. Everything works again even with my custom cert and URL.

How would readopting the server fix the Android clients? My iOS devices never stopped working. I don’t see how it could have been a certificate issue since I was using my own certificate from my own CA for the plex server.

I don’t know what that means so :man_shrugging:.

Wrong term. Removed and claimed.

This is interesting…i couldn’t find a detailed set of instructions on how to do this properly and I think I did it correctly. Is there a link to properly remove and reclaim to confirm that I did this correctly?

Okay - so I followed a different set of directions (here) and now it seems to work. Somehow something changed and the solution appears to be to remove and re-add your server to your account.

Hand-wavy magic that maybe should be kept an eye on - but at least it’s working again.
