I am able to play my movies perfectly fine on my PC and Macbook but when it comes to watching on my Sony Bravia Tv and Galaxy s21 Ultra, it doesn’t play, it gives me the error saying “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please Check your connection and try again” (I have provided screenshots as well)

I am having a similar issue when trying to share my library with a friend who has an android TV… works fine on his laptop but can’t seem to get it to play on his TV. it was ok a few weeks ago but something seems to have changed with an update recently…

I do face the same issue. it’s working without any problem on the web platform but when I try to read a video on my TV or via the Android app on my phone I’m getting the error.

I updated my server with the last version and the situation remains…

I also experienced. this problem. I just installed plexmediaserver_1.23.6.4863-6b3792414_amd64.deb on my Ubuntu dedicated plex server and it now works on my Amazon Fire TV. Fingers crossed, this will work for awhile.

I’m on version 1.23.4.4712 and can access my server via plex.tv/web, but not from the android apps. It was working yesterday and nothing changed afaik

Sounds like the same problem I’ve been having the past couple of days. Movies streaming OK to Windows laptops, but Nvidia Shield Pro and Android phones, I get buffering after a couple of seconds’ play.

I have similar issues with a new Android phone and app version 8.20. Older Android phone with app version 8.15 works fine just like Windows and Web versions.

I can stream(play) Live TV but cannot access stream Library files.

Same Here ! If I can mention, it’s working on local network and not working on remote !

It’s a pain …

Since the old Galaxy worked with 8.15 client I grabbed the APK off of it and loaded it on the new phone.

Everything is now working like it did in the past.

Unfortunately Plex does not have a library of older APKs we can download that I have found. Since I do not have any other APKs I do not know if any versions newer that 8.15 but older than the current 8.20 work.

I do have an older Plex server and it may be newer clients don’t work with older servers.

Maybe some Plex folks could jump in with what version of server the client versions require or which servers are dropped off the list of working servers for the client version.

I was able to “fix” my issue by changing the network secure connection to disabled. Unfortunately I don’t want to run it that way long term.

If you are seeing the “check your connection” error message:

There is a problem with the current Android client and older versions of Plex Media Server (1.18, 1.19, maybe others).

The problem is visible in the Android client log: [FFmpeg] [ERROR] [tls @ 0xc35efba0] Peer certificate failed verification

Updating to the current release of Plex Media Server fixes the problem.

If you cannot update to the current release, the workaround is to disable secure communications on the Plex Media Server and the client.

Plex Media Server: Settings → Network → Secure Connections = Disabled.
Plex Android app: Settings → Advanced → Allow Insecure Connections = Always

Notes:

  • You will lose Plex Media Server access via app.plex.tv, which uses https, when you disable secure communications. You can connect to your Plex server via http://pms_ip_address:32400/web (ex: http://192.168.1.2:32400/web).
  • Plex Relay will not be available, as it requires secure communication.
  • You may have to reconfigure other Plex clients to allow insecure connections.
