Plex server device: My Cloud Home Duo
Player device: Samsung A50 (Android 11)
Issue: Cannot stream anything from any Android device. (iOS devices are all working fine)
Error details : “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”
Tried the following:
Reinstalling Plex for Android and Plex Media Server for My Cloud Home
Tried “Allow Insecure Connections” on Android device, but got no success
All permissions are allowed on Android device
Found no problems with my network or my Android device
(Getting same error on other Android devices too)
Tried previous versions of Plex for Android, but found no success
Contacted Western Digital but they said: “Please be informed that Plex is a third-party application and I request you to contact Plex community forum for any issue relate to the update”
PS: Please help me with this issue, I am getting no support from WD and it is not in my hands to update Plex server, since the updates are provided by Western Digital and downgrading Plex for Android does not help either

My server is a Western Digital My Cloud Home. Connection is a Devolo MagicLAN 2400. The ethernet connection is fine and the TV can play Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc. If I switch to VLC player app on the TV, I can navigate to the Plex folder on the server and play the files. So it’s not the connection, nor the server.
Today I’ve uninstalled and re-installed the Plex app on the TV but the problem persists. My media library looks fine, it even recognises that I’ve started an episode elsewhere (VLC) and gives me the option to resume rather than restart, but I then get the same error message.
I’ve done a full reboot of TV, WLAN/DLAN, Router and even Fibre box, to no avail. I have Plex for windows installed on PC on same network as TV and files play fine on the PC app.
Hi ! I have the same error as a lot of people here. I tried a lot of stuff but I think it due to their Android and Android TV application who have a problem.
In you log, there is the same problem : App cannot direct play this item. Direct play is disabled
They renew my certificate, I tried to use Image subtitle in advanced settings (worked a few time … why ?, switching auto quality and overrall restart the app after modifying every settings)
There is a work around for this situation, install Jellyfin or else until they repair bugs
am having same issue on a samsung note 10. it was working great 5 days ago now stopped. its also on the plex lib asking me to upgrade but i will not let me do that. can someone please help. paying money for something can not use
I am having this same problem with my Lenovo Yoga tablet. It will not play anything off of my plex server. I have only tried while at home on the same network. No matter what media I try to play I only the spinning orange circle for a few moments, then nothing. I have uninstalled / reinstalled the Plex app to insure I had the latest version. No luck. Also, on the Plex Media Server ( Version 1.24.2.4973) there is no indication of anything being played. My Moto Phone works fine, both local and remote.
Yep, that’s it. Thanks. That error was in the logs and the PMS version is 1.18. I’m still looking for a way to upgrade it but the disable secure comms workaround works. Thanks very much for the advice
