Ok, here’s my scenario: Some shows that I record would be inefficient to store in Season folders (i.e. America’s Test Kitchen). So today, they’re all in one single folder which makes it easy to sort and find a specific episode that I am looking for.
When I imported my “television” folder, all of the shows that are properly formatted with season folders were imported properly and can be watched. (BTW, “Jericho” from 2006 was imported and identified as the spy series from 1966)… But the folders containing all shows without using any season xx subfolders were not imported.
Any easy way to correct this?
For the Jericho, from 2006
show to be identified correctly the naming needs to follow the thetvdb.com site which would be Jericho (2006)
.
See: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=79330&lid=28
If you are not using Season XX
folders than you need to make sure the parent folder for the show as well as the episodes are name correctly, at a minimum it should look like this:
/TV Shows
/TV Show Name
/SXXEXX.ext
If you post exactly what you are currently using we will be able to determine what needs to change.
Sure, I get the Jericho issue and pretty much resolved it by manually editing the entries.
What I’ve got, for example
/video /movies /television /Jericho /Season 1 (2006) /s01e01-The First Seventeen Hours (Pilot).mp4 /... {all the rest of the episodes} /Season 2 (2007) /America's Test Kitchen from Cook's Illustrated /{All episodes}
So in essence, if it’s a regular show with consecutive episodes that are in order, the show contains seasons and the episodes are in the respective season folder. If it’s a show that doesn’t matter what episode you watch in any order (i.e. a cooking show), then everything is bulk dumped into the show’s folder and there are no seasons. I have two such shows like that, all of the others are regular shows that do have seasons and imported properly. The two shows without seasons were neglected and left out.
It should look like this:
/video
/movies
/television
/Jericho (2006)
/Season 01
/s01e01-The First Seventeen Hours (Pilot).mp4
/... {all the rest of the episodes}
/Season 02
/Americas Test Kitchen
/SXXEXX.ext
For America's Test Kitchen
see: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=80297&lid=7
Is it ok to keep the apostrophe in “America’s” or does that need to go?
And the other show I have archived is “Cook’s Country from America’s Test Kitchen” which already does appear to be correct according to thetvdb.
If your OS supports the character then it’s fine to have it in there
I’m not sure that is the fix. I’ve tried it with both “America’s Test Kitchen” and “Americas Test Kitchen” and tried to update the library. One note, I’m a noob here so may not be doing that correctly. From the web browser, TV Shows library, I hit the “refresh” icon in the top right that has the hover tool tip “Update Library”…
In both cases, it’s still not appearing to import those folders. Since I defined the library as Television, do I need to have Season xx folders? Or could something else be preventing the import?
you don’t need season folders if the episode files have the season number in it , s02e04
for example. You haven’t told us how your Americas Test Kitchen episode files are named though
No episode names because that is not significant in my library. The titles are just the name of the episode, i.e.
- A Modern Take on Pizza and Grilled Cheese.mp4
- Almond Cake and British Scones.mp4
I want to keep seasons out of the picture in order to not clutter things. But it sounds like for TV, I will need to quantify the season and episode?
ok that’s is why they are not being found. if a file does not have a season or episode notation it will be ignored in a TV library since Plex will think you accidentally put some a movie file in there for example.
looks like the pizza episode is from season 14 so S14E04 A Modern Take on Pizza and Grilled Cheese.mp4
would be the minum to get it right and grab the correct metadata
you might be able to get away with just " E04 A Modern Take on Pizza and Grilled Cheese.mp4 " but it will likely still put them all in a season 01 and get wong metadata for S01e04 rather than S14E04
if you really don’t care about all that then you can put shows like that in a Home Videos type library which you can call whatever you want and just view by folder, but it will also not get metadata

That would be great not to have season folders, but it doesn’t work the majority of the time:
Family Guy works great for example but The Simpsons not so…
\Media
\TV Shows
\The Simpsons
\The Simpsons - S01E01 - Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire [1989].mp4
\The Simpsons - S01E02 - Bart the Genius [1989].mp4
I can list a dozen shows that work but many others that don’t…
If you are able to avoid using season folders and yet get the TV series to show up that would be a miracle. Help?

Can’t get it to work even though I tried a variety of ways?
Just started recording America’s Test Kitchen (2001) OTA with Plex’s DVR, and have noticed that I am having this issue as well.
The DVR records the episode over the air, places into Handbrake watch folder, processes it from MPEG2 to h.264 (.MKV), and places it in the Shows share, keeping the original name and folder structure.
For this show only, all episodes just show up, without being organized into seasons.
Folder structure is what is created by default with the Plex DVR.
- /Show
- /America’s Test Kitchen (2001)
- /Season 18
- /America’s Test Kitchen (2001) - S18E01 - Grown Up Comfort Classics.mkv
- / … rest of season 18 episodes
- /Season 19
- /America’s Test Kitchen (2001) - S19E01 - Pork Chops and Oven Fries.mkv
- / … rest of season 19 episodes
I’ve not seen this behavior with any other show. Has anybody come up with a resolution for this?
I found the resolution to my problem. For the show, click on edit, go to the Advanced tab, and change Seasons from Hide to Show.
Never knew that setting was there.
