Hello everyone,
Here is the use case:
I am a Plex-pass user with a Plex Media Server. I often invite my friends to come to my place and have an evening-video-party (eating junk food and watching TV shows and movies together).
My friends are not Plex-pass users (poor fellows) but I would like to allow them to see (before the evening-video-party) what movies and TV shows I have in my PMS libraries, so that they can choose (and why not, vote) for the video(s) we will see together during the party.
On the other hand, my PMS is on a small Synology DS218+ NAS which cannot handle a lot of streams at once, especially if those streams are transcoded ones (even hard-transcoded ones). So I cannot afford to let all my friends having the capability to remotely play my PMS content.
What is my feature request I hear you say:
Well, I would like to be able to grant access to my PMS libraries and forbid playing capability for some people I choose. Those people could see the titles, covers, plots and various information (and maybe some extra-content, such as the trailers, if and only if they are not stored on my NAS), but would not be able to play the videos stored on my NAS.
Where this feature could fit in?
Maybe this feature could be implemented in the Manage Library Access menu for the Friends. It is said You can manage access to libraries or single titles and restrict access to certain features but I did not find any way (maybe I missed it, that is a possibility) to grant access to my libraries and disable at the same time (for all or some of them) the capability to play their content. Or maybe this feature could be implemented in the Plex Home menu for the Managed Users, I do not know.
Final words:
This feature sounds like the famous Watch Together one, but in a post-pandemic old-fashioned warmer way I guess.
Thank you for taking the time to read me!
Regards,
Jerome.
