[Feature Request] - PMS - Library control

I wish if there was feature in Plex to hide ( not to display by default on the main screen ) or password protect a media library. to enable it in PMS.

 

To put it in a context --  I have a home video library with family videos which I would want to share only with my family and wouldn't want to show up on the main screen for others to see or know. 

 

Not looking for multi-user PlexHome, Shared libraries just want the simple thing as mentioned above.

You can already do that. When you setup your User share, only share that Home Video library with the people you want to see it. Anyone who it is not shared with will never know it exists. I have many libraries that only I can see, or that specific friends or family members can see.

Thanks but like I said I don’t want to use multi-user option because I’m the only person who manages the library. I just want the control for myself as I mentioned above.

The problem is without different users there is no way to determine who can see what.
If they are all just logging in as you then the server can only assume they ARE you and give you all the keys to the kingdom.
You will have to use at least one LOWER USER account to do what you want in addition to your own ADMIN account.
Then you share the lower access account with everyone else.

I suggest actually three accounts gives the best result.
One yours (Admin)
One for Family
One for Friends

This would allow you to share most video and music with friends.
Family sensitive content with just your family
And keep the admin controls out of incapable hands.

This method is a lot simpler than trying to manage multiple users each with their own account.

Well my plex pass account is there and again I’m the only one who administers the Library. I would like to have the control. For others they don’t need to have accounts/passwords. They will see what I would like them to see. This can be done by providing an option in the “settings”.

It allows you to password protect certain Library’s and should do what you want.

Early 2021 clean-up:

  • “Plex way-of-working” implemented based on Plex Home / sharing w/ friends and managed users / parental controls / sharing restrictions
  • alternative 3rd party option pointed out in the thread
