Managed Users access to Friend's server

I have a Kids’ Managed User account with access to my local libraries with restrictions, which I love. I can filter by G-rated movies and movies tagged “Kids”, and they can see what I want them to see and nothing more.

I also have a Friend who has given me access to their libraries, one of which is a kids’ library. I can access them just fine from my Admin account. However, there seems to be no way to access the Friend’s libraries from the Managed User account. Is this accurate? If so, are there any plans to enable this?

Ideally, under User Management, I would be able to check a box for my Friend’s libraries in the same way that I check my local libraries to give them access. The restrictions would still apply in the same way that they do for local libraries. In addition to that, it would be cool for me to be able to add my own tags to a Friend’s library so I can provide my own filtering for a Managed User. That way, if my Friend didn’t have a library for Kids, I could still filter the main library.

I believe Managed Users exist in the microcosm of your environment. If your children had their own individual separate accounts (email addresses registered with Plex) then I think you could employ the functionality you’re looking for. Bear in mind that you’re then at the mercy of what this friend decides to share.

Essentially in this scenario, you’re removing the “managed” part of it. You’ll have no control over what the friend assigns… and if the kids have access to their email used to set the account, they could get invited to other users accounts as time goes by.

So, I don’t think there’s middle ground. Either you keep them contained, or they’re free to choose.
