Please excuse me for not reading through all the replies, but it seems to me that what’s necessary here is a feature where the administrator can selectively delegate the ability to delete content to other users, on a per-library basis (i.e. Bob can delete from Movies but not other libraries, Jill can delete from Music but not other libraries, Chuck can delete from Movies, TV Shows and DVR Recordings but not other libraries, etc…)
This simple approach provides a significant amount of power and flexibility for administration and delegation. Yes - a large number of users likely won’t need this granularity, but in mi case, for instance, I’d like to be able to delete items from my “Recordings” library immediately if I want without dreading an accidental deletion elsewhere in my prized collection which contains many home videos that don’t exist elsewhere.
And this isn’t about keeping backups, this is about flexibility of use and a feature that other competitors (most notably Emby) already provide…
+1 Per user/library rights. This next version of the delete function is probably a long shot, but if you have multiple users, it would be good for them to delete a show from their view of the library but not delete the show in case other people want to watch it. Then when all users assigned to a library/show delete it, a scheduled job that detects when all users have deleted it finally deletes the episode. Might even be useful to allow users to tag TV Shows they care about. I would love to take Paw Patrol off my list but allow it for kids. This way I wouldn’t be in the “delete” group for the scheduled delete routine calculation.
+1 Same issue here. I don’t want to see all the kids stuff in the list so I created a new user for me, making my old account a true admin account.
Now I can’t even delete stuff myself without switching to admin and then back again.
If this is enabled (which i agree is a good idea), then it MUST be with per-library permissions per user.
Just like you can select which libraries to share with a specific user, there should be a corresponding list of which libraries they are allowed to delete content from.
Agreed. I’d love to give my home users the ability to delete things off the DVR after watching them. That space quickly fills and having people have to tell me to delete things they’re done watching isn’t the best solution.
Agreed, I’ve just set up a DVR and I don’t want the recordings mixed up with the longer term TV and Movies I want to keep to watch again. So I Record to a new library I created and I only want family members to delete from that Library.
This is a MUST for DVR administration. There are shows that I (the admin) will never watch and the home users who watch them should be able to delete. Please get this added soon, we are over a year and a half now waiting for this option.
How can we vote on this topic? It is very interesting that my mother can delete her series from her library without telling me. Server space is limited…
