There seems to be a glitch on the voting of this. I just tried(for test only, I hate the idea) and got 403 forbidden error message.
FWIW I did too but trying a few more times seemed to finally take.
In our case, we originally got Plex to store all digitized VHS tapes in our library so we can finally ditch them and go fully digital. In particular it was for Detroit Lions games. Yes, as bad as it sounds, most of the games we have are wins so we can live safely in a concocted reality for our sanityās sake.
However, since doing so, weāve fully embraced the awesome OTA and DVR functionality and love it. My father is really into westerns and is pulling them all down. He recently asked me how to delete them after watching to save space and I was shocked to see that it wasnāt possible and that this subsequent vote is here.
I am not too upset, however. Plex is so awesome and does so many things well. Considering the problem space and the issues they have had to fight through to provide the offering that they do, Iām OK with suffering through this small blemish for the time being.
Agree with you! Iād like to see this fixed as well of course, but to me itās not a show stopper (pun intended ⦠LOL). Just one of those things to fix in time, would be a nice capability.
Thanks!
Iād love it, and above all, pictures/photos please.
My wife uses her own photo library and I want to grant her ownership.
I would also like this feature. I was about to buy a lifetime plex pass assuming that the function would be there but only bought a month luckily. After seeing this two year old thread I think Iāll be looking to find a different media manager as my wife watches a ton of TV shows and I cant be bothered to go delete them all the time.
Make the auto delete function after a show is watched work for the admin and any user that has permissions for that folder to do so please plex. I really dont want to convert to another media manager but this is a pretty simple ask I think.
How is it possible that Plex āImproved library sharing and managementā with the latest release and didnāt implement this feature? Plex can we assume that this feature is outright rejected? BTW, for anyone still looking for this feature, Emby offers it. Emby doesnāt currently offer photo uploads from iOS so it wouldnāt solve for deletion of shared user photo uploads unless they are on Android. I started out just switching DVR to Emby about a year ago but have since all but abandoned Plex. I always assumed Iād switch back when this feature was released but Iām doubtful there will ever be a compelling reason to do so at this point.
No. This topic would be closed if that was the case.
+1 Essential!
Have to say, this is a complete deal breaker for me.
I bought the Plex Pass when it was on special a few months ago but I wish I hadnāt.
I should have RTFMād more to be honest, but the sheer lack of the most fundamental options are a real turn off using Plex in practise.
The MAIN quibble is of course this nonsense that I cannot tick a box to tell the server to āallowā my wife to delete her own shows - there is NO WAY I will be messing about with all that housework. Also, my HD Homerun becomes a nightmare to administer if home users cannot delete their own stuff - the mind boggles!
Other notable nonsenses are:
An option to get rid of the spoiler pictures and synopsis for episodes on the Plex client (I use the fudge that is the excellent Plexkodiconnect, which DOES have spoiler free support). I donāt want to see the guy who supposedly died in one episode beaming out at me from a screen grab a couple of eps later - again, nonsense.
Also, I want to CHOOSE how much bandwidth to use over a mobile connection - no matter what I do, everything is garbled down to an unwatchable blocky mess - more nonsense.
Looks like Emby will be the better fit for me and I can say that as an I.T. guy I will surely be recommending an avoidance of Plex - especially now I have delved further and see that subjects like this one are upvoted for years on end without a simple toggle switch being added!
Keep my money - if I can put one person off the blackboard scraping annoyance that is Plex it will be worth it!
There are forum threads as far back as at least 2014 asking for this very easy to implement featureā¦this type of stuff is why I have a continued love/hate relationship with Plex.
Here is one with lots of interest⦠2014!!!
+++++++++ I agree great ideal and like the addition of delayed auto delete
The lack of this option has moved me toward Emby since they have this ability. This should be DVR 101 type feature. At least the option to allow it should be a minimum. I get the āadminā managing the content but there should be an option to allow this at a minimum for people who want it. TiVo 10 years ago had this ability.
I might be alone here, but I think that Plex having delete rights outside of its own cache/temp folder (which I guess could cover DVR recordings) is frightening as hell and should never have been implemented in the first place from a security standpoint, weāre one exploit away from disaster.

I just fully switched over to PlexDVR - and have a separate library set up for it⦠I definately need the ability for my wife (as a managed user) to delete from that library - w/o having her have FULL rights to everything else (which she does now using my admin account). She watches and deletes, we donāt really ākeepā anything we record off live TV, and if we ever decide to do that - I would just move it to another library.
+1
I know this is a ābumpā but I wanted to say I definitely want something like this to be considered. Being able to give individual users additional options shouldnāt be that hard to implement!
This is desperately needed. Someone said this was from 2014⦠I mean this is core function at this point especially with the DVR now. Id like to be able to control what users can delete from what library. Seems pretty simple to setup with a permission. I dont trust the family not to delete the archive of content that the normal folders hold. BUT I do want them to be able to delete there DVR recordings.
Bump. Also wanting this.
I pay for Plex pass just for TV and DVR function. If after 6 years they can not get basic permissions right I am just going to have to pay for a product that appreciates TV DVR functionality.
How about this?
