As documented in Android Auto | Plex Support , the Plex Android Auto app only allows for playback of music and podcasts only. I believe that this should be expanded to include the audio ONLY of movies and TV shows as well. There are a good number of TV shows and movies that would make for great listening while driving long distances. It may require that the Plex server be able to pull the audio soundtrack from an existing video file.
I would LOVE this feature. Ages ago I would record the audio of movies and burn them to a CD-ROM to listen to in the car so that I could listen to my favorite movies (that I’ve seen 100x) during road trips. These are movies where I could picture the action in my head and focusing on the audio surprisingly lets you hear things you may have overlooked before.
If Plex added this feature, I’d have access to my entire video library and could listen to it, audio only. I would want only the audio stream sent (no video) so to save on bandwidth. Adding a tab for audio only within Plexamp would be cool and remain an audio-only program.
I created a post yesterday and didn’t see this one. I want this feature so bad. I love listening to episodes while I’m doing my morning commute. It’s the same thing as listening to music. Except like an audiobook but an audio drama. Shows I’ve seen so many times. I don’t need to see the video. I am unsure how difficult it would be to play just the audio track but let’s get this feature turned on!
