I have several collections being shown on my home page. I would like the option to have the order of those collections be random each time the home page is loaded to make the experience feel more dynamic.
Just to clarify… you want the collections themselves to be displayed in random order – not their content?
That is correct! Sorry if that wasn’t clear
Hello, I’d like a way to display my collections on the homepage in a random order. I would still like to maintain an alphabetical sort when selecting the collection though. I’d like it to be similar to how the Halloween and Christmas movie collections are. This would be an awesome feature to have.
Thanks!
I’m not sure I understand what you’re suggesting.
- You have a collection that’s configured to sort its content alphabetically
- You have published that collection to the Home Screen
- You want this collection hub on the Home Screen to be sorted randomly?
I don’t understand the reference to the seasonal hubs… are those sorted randomly??
I apologize for not being clear.
I would like way to display a collection on the homepage that is different/random every time it loads. I’d still like to retain alphabetical order when you select the collection via your library.
The way it displays the seasonal recommendations does seem to be random, however when selecting the collection as a whole on the homepage it is all random.
I hope that clears it up.
Just catching up on this thread… you should already be able to achieve this. However it’ll take a „helper collection“ to make it happen.
- filter the library by said collection using the advanced filter option
- set the order of the current view to Random
- optionally apply a limit to the number of items to be displayed
- save the current selection/filter as a smart collection
- publish this „helper collection“ to the Home Screen
That seems to work. But if I want to utilize an already existing smart collection, I have to make a duplicate just for the random sort order which is a pain.
