Suggestion (something along the lines of):
/Stand Alone Movies/The Martian (2015).mkv
/Series(Or Collections)/Firefly/Movies/Serenity (2005).mkv
/Series(Or Collections)/Firefly/TV Shows/Firefly/Season 01/Firefly - s01e01.mkv
Or if that’s too much effort, at least allow movie series to be grouped together in folders as TV series are:
Movies/Star Wars/Movie 01/Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999).mkv
Movies/Star Wars/Movie 02/Star Wars Episode II - Attack of The Clones (2002).mkv
What I suggested is far from ideal, but they seem set with the naming convention and requiring that TV shows and Movies be in different folders.
What I suggested is sloppy, but it is significantly more organized than what Plex currently has, and as such is significantly less sloppy. There is no reason related to functionality to not have Series folders.
But yeah, I am not expecting any actual change on the organization side of things, as the disorganized state of the storage convention is likely a benefit to Plex. The more disorganized the HDD, the less likely people are to leave Plex and use other services as they might have to reorganize which would be a pain in the ass.
How can anything possibly be more organized than for example…
D:/TV Shows
D:/Movies
Also, how does this discourage people from moving away from Plex to a competitor?
Uninstall Plex and install Emby and/or Kodi and you’re ready to go.
Why? Because the preferred structure for both of those is identical to Plex.
Maybe somewhere you have seen some Media Server/Playback software that prefers having movies buried in a folder that’s named as a TV Show. If so then please link us.
I do get what you are trying to achieve, I really do.
It actually has endless possibilities for some things (The DC universe of TV Shows/Movies springs to mind especially.) But I’m pretty sure that both that and specifically what you are trying to achieve can already be done via playlists.
