Particularly with classical music, it is often preferable to view the track listing of an album by work, rather than by individual tracks (symphonies, for example, with multiple movements in discrete tracks). It would be nice to have the option to select between ‘Tracks’ view and ‘Works’ view.
Tracks view would be just as it is now (although it should display TIT1, TIT2, and TIT3 concatenated, if they’re populated).
Works View would list the composer’s works by the work name (ID3 tag TIT1 “grouping”), which can be expanded to show the individual tracks.
My mock-up includes buttons for ‘Tracks’ and ‘Works.’ The Tracks button reveals the current discrete track list, as it exists today. The Works button reveals my proposed view. Plex should remember this selection on a per-album basis. OR
There could be a Library-level setting to enable/disable Works view for the entire library. OR
Since discrete tracks are displayed the same way in either mode, there may be no need for the buttons at all. If any tracks in the media folder have TIT1 Grouping populated, the UI displays it in the new format. Would people want/need the option to switch views? I don’t know. (EDIT: on further thought, if tags aren’t in good order, Works view might be problematic, so the option is probably necessary)
In all cases, when the user makes a choice, Plex should remember it permanently.
