I would really love it if we were able to set music playlists to have an album view (instead of just songs) like how it is done for music libraries.
Playlists based solely on tracks are fine but it takes away the aesthetic of seeing your collection of albums as described by the playlist. I want to be able to create a “Favourite albums” playlist and be able to see those albums in a more compact way. Then, as I explore my music library (I tend to play albums front to back in a single sitting), I want to add entire albums I enjoy to the playlist (this capability already exists). Going from an album view in the library to a track view of all the album tracks in a table is a big letdown for me every time; so I currently use iTunes for dealing with album playlists and use Plex for track playlists.
You could also get away with creating custom filters and create a filter for each album (then create playlist from it) but then you’d have to repeat this process each time you want to add to this grouping.
It does not seem like something that is very hard to implement but I understand that there may be a lot of implications and considerations that come with this feature (plus, I’m not a Plex developer so what do I know ). I also understand that this is not a ground-breaking feature so it might not be as worth it to the developers to add this. However, I think it would be a good step towards making Plex music management more robust and, personally, it would complete my life

Having to jump through the hoops of the ‘custom filter’ function just to simply view your media by album or artist is painful and can certainly be avoided by adding a sorting function under Playlists. This is long overdue.
I would also love to see this implemented. I have a collection of EPs and Mini albums and have grouped them in a smart playlist. Being able to change the playlist view to albums would be perfect for this.
+1, I’d love the ability to use the smart playlist functionality to create dynamic album lists that are viewable by grid view. I don’t listen to playlists, so long lists of individual tracks are not helpful but the ability to pull up a custom list of albums would be very helpful.
+1 to this as well. I’ve been using plex for a while, but am just finally fully embracing it! I do love it, and along with PlexAmp, I’ve finally been able to ditch clunky iTunes forever! Yay!
But please please please give us the ability to view our smart playlist by album, artist etc. If there is a sneaky way to do this, I have not figured it out and I’ve been over these boards quite a bit searching.
It looks like this post is rather old, but the issue still exists. Maybe this will float it back closer to the top as a feature request again.
I made that original post that’s linked in this request. Nothing has been done about it in the 4 years that have passed since then (not to mention any of the other bugs/requests I have posted), so don’t hold your breath.
I want to vote to add grid view for playlists, but every post for that is closed, and points to this suggestion that doesn’t sound the like the same suggestion…
Another vote for this please. I have a playlist for albums I want for offline access on my phone with Plexamp and its a pain to find and remove albums I no longer want
iTunes / Apple Music / Swinsian all have an option to view playlists as “Album View”. Rather than seeing a list of individual tracks - it displays a grid of the albums - much like the “Recently Added” view. This is an amazing feature and makes playlists so much more powerful as a collection of albums and not just songs. I didn’t seen an existing posting regarding this feature request. Hard to imagine this is the first.

I’d upload an image of this feature that you’re asking for. Give us some screenshots of it so we aren’t having to think so hard. Given I’m not a user of Apple or iTunes anymore, I’m blanking on what it is you are describing and can’t find it in Google images.
A playlist is a playlist, i.e. a list of media items to play.
If you want a collection of albums, why not use a literal Collection?
What you want is a way to organize albums, artists or movies into groups and look at them that way. That’s what collections were invented for.
