allowing other users to update or see updated library

The server is running and managed by a plex account: example@gmail.com
With the new plex update to 1.x, I can’t browse to 192.168.10.10:32400/web without also logging in as well.
This is fine, logging in isn’t a problem.
What is a problem is that when example@gmail.com is logged in, he sees the updated library.
When I’m logged in with my plex account, myemail@gmail.com, i can see the library because he’s added my to his friends and shared his library with me, but I don’t see new videos. It appears that the library isn’t being updated.
Previously, I could initiate a refresh. Now, I can not.
How do we fix this?

Updating a library can only be done by the admin of that server. If you mean your friend has already done that, but what you see isn’t updating to reflect the new changes, you can force an update on your end by re-selecting the server from the drop down.

That is good to know that the admin can only do it, but yes, I’ve tried exactly that. I’ve re-selected the server, i even tried closing plex on my PS4 and restarting it, or logging in on my laptop web browser but each time, I don’t see the updated library. My friend sitting next to me with his laptop, signed in with his username DOES see the updated library.

That is odd that the PS4 and the browser both do not update. Just checking, but are you sure you are connected to the correct server? If your friend used Cloud Sync and shared that with you, maybe that hasn’t finished syncing so you won’t see it until it’s done.

No, that’s not it either. Cloud sync requires you to pair it up with a dropbox or some other cloud storage, right?
To better describe the network:

There’s a synology SAN which runs an instance of plex .9x
There’s a virtual machine on an ESXI server that runs ubuntu and plex 1.x < – This is the machine that my ps4 or my web browser doesn’t see updates to the library.

We quit using the synology for plex as the CPU power just doesn’t cut it although plex is still installed and usable on it.

The ubuntu virtual machine with the plex 1.x instance accesses the media library data over a file share to the synology.
I’m going to assume that because of this, it is harder for plex to detect new media added to a library or that the error in library updating has to do with this component.

No, that shouldn’t make a difference. If your friend who is the admin sees the update, so should you. The are both pulling the info from the same server, so they should be showing the same thing. Sometimes the client will used cached information so it may be a little behind but a refresh of the info from the server should fix it. I cannot think of any other reason why your friend sees something different from you.
