@nsantalu I actually didn’t ask it to update. After installing the software and launching it started updating automatically, didn’t even have a choice of selecting yes to update.

Ok I’m going to uninstall the software then re-install the beta again… maybe the second time it will update the Firmware.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the software still didn’t update the Firmware version on either of my HDHomeRun Extend devices… maybe the Firmware doesn’t apply to the Extends? What device do you have?

So, funny you should suggest it is environmental… I considered that and actually went so far as to install PMS 1.7.5 on another PC running Windows 7 and pretty much nothing else other than what Windows comes with. The PC is comparable to my normal Windows 10 computer in terms of specs but it (the win 7 PC) has double the RAM. Despite it being a very streamlined install with little more than Win7 on it I experienced the exact same issues I experience on my Win10 computer.
Little more is still more. Reload the OS/drivers and then try loading plex and please see if it fails.

I’m not really sure how to re-install the OS because it was an automatic free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10… .I may have the old Windows 7 CD and serial but not sure it would get me back up to Windows 10.
Before you do this i would suggest you create a complete backup. in windows 10 it would be the process to create a recovery drive.
In windows 10
Go into settings>>Go to Recover>> Click on “Get Started” right under “Recovery”. Click on Remove Everything. (the option might be just as good, but this is to be thorough.

One of the images showed all of my devices.
1 - Prime

right but no Extend… I’m wondering if the Firmware doesn’t apply to the Extend devices which is why I’m not getting it.
My firmware is currently at 20170612beta1 even though I installed the 20170707beta2 software.

I posted the below thread on the siliconedust forum, hopefully someone can tell me if 20170612beta1 is the latest available firmware for the Extend even though the software is up to 20170707beta2.

@nsantalu don’t know since I don’t have an Extend. My Dual does not have a beta version available and the Prime is on a Beta1 firmware. Both the Connects and the Prime were updated automatically by the HDHR application. Prior to installing the new version they were all on the November 2016 firmware.

I think mine were both on a 2016 firmware before too but I can’t say for sure as uninstalling the software does not change the firmware version.
I suspect that the version I have (20170612beta1) is the latest firmware for the Extend.
The 20170707beta2 firmware only applies to the HDHR4-2US and HDHR4-2DT models.
It was mentioned in the changelog here:

I also have issues with incomplete DVR recordings. Unfortunately, once a recording is present…even if bad…the system does not try to record a “better” copy of the show, as it mistakenly thinks it already has a good recording.
Suggestion…if a partial recording is done, and the system sees a future repeat of the same exact show, it should record the “repeat”, and replace the partial recording with the full recording…
I’ve two HDHomeRun CONNECT Models HDHR4-2US for a total of four tuners. I’ve just updated them to firmware 20170707beta2…so maybe tonight’s scheduled recordings will work properly. Plex Server is version 1.7.5.4035
I’ve also turned off transcoding for now, hoping that will help.
Signal strength to my HDHomeRun Connects are very high…but that doesn’t seem to matter. Over the air recordings done with a 98%-100% SNR quality level (this is quite high) sometimes just seem to cut off. And then I’m left with a partial show…

nsantalu, the good news is if you did a free in place upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when Microsoft offered the free upgrade, Microsoft “fingerprinted” your system in their activation servers. You can do a clean install of Windows 10 at any time on that machine, and it should activate properly. In fact, after doing the in place upgrade on several systems, I went ahead, updated the BIOS, switched it to pure UEFI mode, and did a total, fresh install of Windows 10, creating media from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You can pull it from the section Create Windows 10 Installation Media.
What I just described is a destructive installation…I deleted all existing partitions as part of the advanced install using the media I created prior to installation, so it was truly a “clean” install. Each of the systems I had upgraded from Windows 7 properly activated with their new fresh copy of Windows 10, and now I had a good, clean install of Windows 10 with the BIOS in pure UEFI mode.
You may want to upgrade to version 1703 before doing this however…just so Microsoft “sees” you are on 1703. Probably entirely unnecessary, but “safer”. Also, make sure the BIOS on the machine you are using is on it’s most current release.
Make sure any software you will have to reinstall works with the 1703 version of Windows 10, including security and encryption software, if any.

Man on man, I’m glad to hear I should be able to reinstall but not thrilled to do so as I have sooooo many programs I’ll need to reinstall and it typically takes me 3-5 days to get everything back the way i like it.
Working 70hr weeks right now so won’t have time to do that for a bit but I’ll add it to my to do list if Plex doesn’t come up with an easier fix in the near future.
Thanks for the info. ![]()
So…1.7.6 is reverting all recordings to mpegts? (based on notes) Has anyone tested this…i’m a little gun shy at this point
Running a recording right now. Ending in the next 3 minutes.
Edit: A ts file extension is in the grab folder instead of mkv but recording still has a couple of minutes.
After the recording finished the ts file was created in the grab folder and sent to my post processing. In VLC I see the following codec information:
My non-HD test has just finished, seems to be fine and back to the ‘original’ .ts
Hmm… I might update but the recording interface also seems to have issues in 1.7.5
Must be serious issues with their mkv setup
The biggest issue with MKV was support for subtitles of any sort for TV. They had major issues with all the different standards and extracting and placing them in MKV(based on what I read). It will be interesting to see the results for all of those having issues with the recording engine producing problem files. I wouldn’t expect them to change the engine again at this point since they have Live tv workinging so I wouldn’t have allot of faith in all those issues going away completely.
