Almost Half My Library is Missing

I just installed Plex Media Server on my Windows 7 and i added my library of TV shows which are organized by “show name/season/showname 1-01 - Episode Name.mp4” and with some shows like 9-1-1 it only found one episode for each season and for shows like Macgyver I cannot get it to change to the reboot it only sees the original I need some series help

Thank You

Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7 when it was released on October 22, 2009. This 10-year period has now ended, and Microsoft has discontinued Windows 7 support so that we can focus our investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences. The specific end of support day for Windows 7 was January 14, 2020. Technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC are no longer available for the product.

MP4 Files:

New Agent:

Old Agents (upgrade - now - Old Agents are no longer supported):

  1. upgrade to Windows 10 <—Free <—best Windows I’ve had (be glad you skipped 8).
  2. name and structure your files correctly
  3. deny Plex the ability to look inside MP4/M4V files and PREFER embedded title fields over correctly named and structured media items (much easier with the New Agent).

Comply with those requirements and your experience will greatly improve.

And yes, disable “Prefer local metadata” to exclude bad metadata in your mp4 files to throw off the scanner.

Hello,

thank you for all those great ideas and the fact that Windows 7 is no longer supported I am using an old computer to get this going instead of throwing it out. I am not sure why but I cannot find that setting you are talking about I am using the latest version of Plex that works on Windows 7 and so I will keep looking. If you have anymore suggestions it would be appreciated.

Thank you so much

It probably means that your library hasn’t been converted to use the “Plex TV Series” agent, yet. But changing it won’t magically fix your issues, because the main issue is your file naming.

but it funny all of my shows are labeled in a similar fashion like this
The Simpsons 1-01 - Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire

and when I did the scan it only found 1 episode of the entire series of Station 19, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Skipped an entire season of The Simpsons and Futurama

Thank you for your reply
Matthew

It doesn’t mean anything when Plex does recognize some misnamed files. If you want it to recognize them all, reliably, then you must follow the naming schema.
Tip: filebot.net

I will keep that in mind and I will look into it also found I can upgrade to Windows 10 so I am doing that also

Thank you For Your Time
Matthew

Plex is luckily recognizing 1-01 as the episode number. For the show 9-1-1, well, it can’t tell between that and the episode numbering system you are using since they both use the dash. Rename it according to the guide and it should work better. This works for me.
