Alphabet tabs on media folders

Hi,

I’ve searched for this answer but unable to see it in the forums. If it has been asked before, please forgive the duplication.

My issue is this… I use a different naming structure than Plex uses by default for TV shows. If I put my shows in there everything is screwed up. So I put them in a general media folder that I name TV. Within this folder are hundreds of subfolders, each being a different show with the folder name being the title of the show. If I tell Plex to display them by “movies” all scores of thousands of files appear, all being every episode of every show. And there is an alphabet tab on the right. But if I display by “folder”, my obvious preferred method, it lays out generic generic folder images 3 wide and as many rows as needed. They are all alphabetized. But there is no alphabet tab on the right. If I want a show starting with P I have to manually scroll all the way down. And when I enter the folder, sometimes Plex will not allow any selection to be made. I can’t even back up to re enter the desired season. Instead I have to start at the top and scroll down again.

So I guess this is two issues…
1, no alphabet tab on generic media folders when viewed by folder.
2. Plex occasionally losing its ability to select anything in a sub folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I’ve seen, folder view is indeed quite limited at times. I can only guess this might be linked to the most common use case for folder view are attempts to bypass/avoid the official organization/naming schema (which means you cannot use the native library views to the extent they were designed for).

You might not like it, but the most direct „fix“ for your problem might be to follow the official naming schema. This way you can use all the features of the regular library views (also you can use an actual tv show library for your tv based content). Trying to squeeze a square piece through a round hole will always result in a limited experience.

I literally have 60,000+ episodes. I would do that, but this has gone so long, renaming all those files… I’d be dead before I could finish rename them.

You might want to check out tools like Tiny Media Manager or Filebot.
