Alt+Enter to go fullscreen on Windows

I’m noticing that, on Windows 10, Explorer, Edge, Chrome, and Visual Studio Code all support toggling fullscreen using the F11 key. None of those apps support toggling fullscreen using Alt+Enter.

These are pretty huge Windows applications with massive install bases. The lack of Alt+Enter support has me wondering which apps support this key combo.

Plex Media Player supports both F11 and Alt+Enter.

F11, empirically, seems like the ubiquitous keyboard shortcut. Perhaps Alt+Enter was popular on earlier Windows versions? Which non Plex apps support Alt+Enter fullscreen toggle?

Some information/replies also in this thread: New Plex app does not respect ALT + ENTER

IMO, it depends whether it’s an “exclusive” app or not.

As a gamer, I’m very familiar with Alt+Enter because that’s what I would intuitively use to make any windowed game go full screen and “take over” the screen (incl. changing resolution or refresh rate, back in the CRT days).

At the same time, I also know about F11… because of browsers. For some reason, I only associate F11 with browsers.

That said, the first time I tried the new Plex app, I intuitively wanted to use Alt+Enter because I think of it as a stand-alone “real app” (just like a game), not a browser. I think that’s because I watch movies in full screen mode and think of them the same way as of games. While personally I’m not using the option to change the screen’s refresh rate when watching a movie, I imagine that people who do will also expect Alt+Enter to work because that’s how you enter the aforementioned exclusive mode.

@VarHyid thank you very (very) much. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

I’ve got a 1.2 build ready for our testers which adds Alt+Enter for Windows users.

Would this (v1.2) also fix using my mobile as a ‘remote’ popping the window back to maximized every time I play something?

Negative, that’s a new one to me.

Version 1.2 was release which adds in Alt+Enter toggling of fullscreen.

OK…can this be fixed? I only use the mobile app as a ‘remote’, hence me not freaking out about the loss of the PMP App (and also a contributing reason your analytic Data might be skewed regarding PMP)

But, this is a deal breaker for me as you can imagine, the new app not staying in Fullscreen every time I launch a video/play music on my TV
