Hello guys,
I have been using Plex for almost three years and it has become a great product (but God is in the details).
I think that it would be a good idea to provide an alternative way to handle subs and audio streams inside containers.
It’s really limited to have only three fields (language, default and forced) to define tracks, some really important information is also present in the label of the tracks.
I have been using tags for a long time inside mkv files to do it but I would be open to suggestions to define a kind of “standard”.
For instance, a mkv file can have:
- Audio 1: [ORIGINAL] English AAC 2.0
- Audio 2: [REMASTERED] English AC3 5.1
- Audio 3: French AC3 5.1
- Subs 1: [FORCED] French
- Subs 2: [FORCED] English
- Subs 3: [FULL] French
- Subs 4: [FULL] English
- Subs 5: [HI] French
- Subs 6: [HI] English
With this, it could be possible to display in plex which audio track is original/remastered and which subs are Full/HI.
To sum up my ideas:
- Add an option in Plex Media Server “Alternative tracks management”
- Identify tags in the tracks label:
- For audio: [ORIGINAL], [REMASTERED] …
- For subs: [FORCED], [FULL], [HI] …
- Display the information in Plex
Thanks and please vote if you like the idea.
